  • 🥁 DRUM ROLL PLEASE... 📣 EUNOMIA RESEARCH AND CONSULTING AWARDED GLOBAL B CORP™ STATUS We are delighted to announce our certification as a B Corporation®(or B Corp™), joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit. We are one of the first sustainability consultancies to have achieved B Corp™ status globally. This certification is a demonstration of one of the many ways in which we will continue to seek out methods to drive more rapid and impactful change to help drive a more positive human impact on the Earth. It shows we apply the same care for society and the planet to all aspects of our own business, as we do on our client work. 🌍   We are now part of a community of 8,000 companies globally who have certified as B Corps™. The B Corp™ community in the UK, representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 1,500 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.   Jonquil Hackenberg, CEO says:    “Being part of the B Corp community is exciting for us: to be part of a movement which recognises societal and planetary value as central to sustainable business strategy. To be one of the first sustainability consultancies with B Corp status across all our operations globally underlines the origins of how we have always done business since inception, nearly a quarter of a century ago. B Corp status provides external recognition of our natural DNA and is the next logical step in our journey to create even greater impact, providing a route to partnership for any organisation wishing to ensure benefit to all stakeholders across their supply chains by engaging like-minded service providers.”   She goes on to add:   “It also demonstrates how unfailingly passionate our team are about the future of our planet and society. We not only strive to do work that leaves our planet in a better place for the next generation for our clients, but we apply it to the way we work too – whilst having a lot of fun in the process.’ #circulareconomy #unwasted #bcorp #bcorpcertified #bcorporation #climatecrisis #sustainability #recycle #reuse #reduce

🚨 New Report Release 🚨 QUNO’s Sustainable and Just Economic Systems programme, in collaboration with Eunomia Research & Consulting Ltd., is pleased to announce the publication of our Phase 1 Report, "Plastic Money: Turning Off the Subsidies Tap." This report represents a significant step in understanding the level of subsidization—estimated at USD 30 billion annually—received by the primary plastics polymer (PPP) production industry across the top 15 polymer-producing countries. These subsidies play important role in the global plastics production chain. Our findings aim to contribute to the ongoing policy discussions within the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution, particularly as we work collectively towards a legally binding global treaty to address plastic pollution. This initiative is supported by Dalberg Catalyst through grant funding from The Rockefeller Foundation. Disclaimer: The findings and conclusions contained within are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect positions or policies of The Rockefeller Foundation or Dalberg Catalyst. Thank you for sharing A BUON RENDERE - Molto più di un vuoto! You can download the report 'Unlocking the Benefits of a Deposit Return Scheme in Italy' here ➡ https://lnkd.in/e7zDMdnp #DRS #recycling #environment 📧 Contact us to learn more: hello@eunomia.co.uk

🎬 Our documentary 🔄 ” Closing the Loop – Discovering the Slovak Deposit System ” **offers an in-depth look at the Slovak Deposit Return System (DRS) for single-use beverage containers which has proved to have a significant positive impact on the environment, waste management and the economy. 🎤 🔎 The coordinators of the campaign for a DRS in Italy went to Slovakia to study closely how the system works and to hear it told directly by the subjects involved: the beverage producers and the retailers who, through a not-for-profit organization, manage and finance the deposit system; without neglecting the citizens’ point of view through the eyes of an Italian-Slovak family. 💡 👍 ♻ Beverage producers are satisfied because they no longer see their branded containers in littering and because they can buy back their material at controlled prices to meet (and exceed) the recycled content targets of the SUP directive for PET bottles equal to 25% by 2025 and 30% by 2030. 👏 The main Retail Organization SAMO and independent retailers are very satisfied with the handling fee they receive from the system administrator for each package they collect. 🗨 «Even Italy, which sees a waste of seven billion beverage containers every year (what we waste dashboard) , could reach the 95.3% collection target for PET bottles (96% for cans and 95,8% for glass) in two years with a DRS – as our study found-, saving every year approximately 110 million Euros, thanks to maximised recycling of PET bottles, from the 800 M of Plastic Tax we pay to Europe every year for the plastic packaging we are unable to recycle . The study we commissioned to Eunomia Research & Consulting last year is in fact the only one publicly accessible in Italy that quantifies the costs and benefits relating to an introduction of a DRS in Italy». 💬 « In Italy, a narrative has been diffused, which claims the possibility for the Italian EPR system to meet the 90% collection target for PET bottles stipulated in the SUP Directive; the reality, though, is there is no scheme in the world that has met such a collection level without a DRS. Every year we lose delaying a deposit system implies economic losses in our country: this includes the State which, in addition to paying for the Plastic Tax (whose amount is taken from the State Budget), is funding programs for the purchase of RVMs to be used in incentive collection systems without a deposit, whilst in DRS systems such RVMs are purchased by retailers; also, losses refer to Municipalities which, besides bear the cost of separate collection of beverage containers, also take on the costs due to removal of littered containers, and costs related to their landfilling/incineration when such containers are delivered in residual waste or in street bins». **English subtitles are available. I recently spent a fulfilling day volunteering at Lush Greens, a community-driven market garden addressing food insecurity. As a member of their Community Supported Agriculture scheme, it was not my first volunteering day at the patch. However, this time it was made possible by Eunomia Research & Consulting - a company that truly walks the talk when it comes to corporate responsibility, encouraging us to use paid volunteering days for meaningful causes. The day was filled with freshly harvested veggies, delicious food, and great conversations with fellow volunteers, including some of my lovely colleagues from Eunomia. We are pleased to share the Phase One Report of the Global Recycling League Table produced by Eunomia Research & Consulting. The report analysed the recycling performance of 48 countries, including those with the highest reported recycling rates and many of the world’s largest economies. It also incorporated lower-income countries from Latin America, Asia, and Africa to highlight global disparities in recycling efforts. This research was funded by TOMRA, the Welsh Government, the International Aluminium Institute, and the Can Manufacturers Institute, in collaboration with Reloop, to identify best practices in recycling. You can read the full report ⏩ https://lnkd.in/emgWFT9A NOTE: - Data on recycling rates for aluminium beverage containers, PET bottles, and glass bottles was extracted from the report and combined with other data sources in the Excel spreadsheet. - The IAI's recycling rate (material in new products/material discarded) was included for each country and material. The list covers 52 countries for aluminium, 49 for PET, and 50 for glass. #aluminium #recycling #data

Two recent studies, one authored by Basuhi et al. in The Journal of Industrial Ecology, and the other by Eunomia Research & Consulting, show the impact deposit return systems can have the recycling rate of beverage containers. Basuhi et al. showed that a nation-wide DRS in the United States could increase PET bottle collection rates to 82%, up from the authors baseline estimate of 24%. Eunomia's recent report for the Canadian Beverage Association shows how a deposit system in Ontario could increase collection rates of beverage containers to the high 80s. https://lnkd.in/eazaTiat

  • We recently worked with itsu to identify robust decarbonisation actions, building on the company’s previous steps to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions from its operations. We ran a series of discovery workshops across itsu’s corporate and business functions, then created a list of long-term decarbonisation levers and tested these levers with internal stakeholders. We then refined the long list of decarbonisation levers and categorised each according to high or low priority. We also developed a briefing note explaining the principles of carbon offsetting, along with recommendations and delivered a follow-up workshop to help itsu refine their decisions. Finally, we designed an action plan – this flagged the need for enabling measures: ensuring people are empowered to implement the levers, making finance available where necessary, and identifying where decarbonisation activities can create value that aligns with itsu’s overall business strategy. Our exploratory study laid strong foundations for action on decarbonisation and set out clear, practical steps to accelerate itsu’s journey towards sustainability. • 🏃♀️🏊♂️🚴♀️ Eunomia Athletes Tri Hard! Fresh from Team GB's success at the Olympics, a dozen hardy Eunomians took part in a triathlon to celebrate the Games. The course was a 40km return ride from our Bristol office in Queen Square to Portishead Open Air Pool for a 1.5k swim, before a 10k run via two laps of Bristol Harbour. The triathlon was a fun and non-competitive event, with the aim to all participate and finish together – the purpose was to get outdoors, get active and have a good time. Big thank you to Katharine R. and Mike Brown for organising, and Molly Hickman for navigating. #Triathlon #Olympics #Wellbeing
