The Arts and Humanities Research Council is interested to know if UK heritage organisations have applied or are planning to apply for Horizon Europe funding. They are interested to understand the UK's participation in such funding opportunities and any information from heritage organisations would be of great help. The Heritage Alliance is therefore asking organisations to fill in the poll (in the comments below) whether they have or have not considered this funding. The Flow Country, a vast blanket bog spanning Caithness and Sutherland, has achieved UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Our Environmental Research Institute (ERI) played a key role in this successful bid, and we’re absolutely delighted it has been recognised for its global significance in the fight against climate change. With World Heritage Site status, the Flow Country has the potential to create more green jobs in the North of Scotland and lead education and research in environmental innovation and sustainable development worldwide. Congratulations to the newly elected Culture and Education Committee (CULT)of the European Parliament! The European Cultural Foundation, together with Culture Action Europe and Europa Nostra , has been actively advocating for a Cultural Deal for Europe, to ensure that culture receives the place it deserves, at the core of EU policy-making. Culture is not a luxury or an accessory. It's the foundation of Europe's history, present and future. It is the essence of who we are and what we thrive for. Yet, it’s often overlooked. We’re calling for a Cultural Deal for Europe: to include culture in key EU policies areas such as foreign affairs and security, research and innovation, climate and social cohesion, regional development. The new CULT Committee leadership brings hope for a strengthened commitment to cultural policies that promote freedom, respect of human rights and social justice. We are eager to work with Chair Nela Riehl and the CULT Committee to continue shaping a Europe where culture is a pillar of our shared values of inclusion, solidarity, diversity, and intercultural dialogue. Today we celebrated the fantastic achievement of the team behind MINIARE: The Art & Science of Manuscript Heritage - an outstanding project that won a prestigious #EuropeanHeritageAward in the research category in 2023. In a short presentation Europa Nostra UK Chair Sara Robertson outlined three of the key reasons why the project won the respect of the Europa Nostra awards jury. 🗺 Connections: The medieval manuscripts demonstrate the network of trade connections that spanned Europe and beyond. And we now have evidence of the multicultural nature of artisanal workshops too. 👩🏻⚕️ Collaboration: The success of the project derives from the close collaboration of many skilled professionals working across disciplines - heritage scientists, art historians, curators. 📢 Communication: The team are talented storytellers and continue to generously share their learning with a wide range of audiences in a highly engaging way.
