Huge congratulations to adele quinn, our Queensferry GSM, who scooped the Diversity and Inclusion Heroes Award at last nights Retail Week Awards 🏆 Adele was pivotal in kickstarting our programme with DFN Project SEARCH , taking on board 5 young adults with learning disabilities as part of a yearlong internship. Last year, the programme was expanded to 11 stores with 70 new interns participating in the scheme - testament to the hard work from Adele and her team in making the pilot a success. Here's how the judges described Adele and her achievements: 🟢 "A shining example of someone dedicated to championing diversity and inclusivity" 🟢 "You can picture the difference she has made to these interns’ lives. She has broken down barriers with this scheme.” A truly worth winner! Congratulations Adele and the team at Queensferry 👏 https://lnkd.in/ejPNrpZJ

We were delighted to see Jodie Gosling MP lead the first ever debate on supported internships in the House of Commons yesterday - and hear many other MPs share how our work with DFN Project SEARCH has made a meaningful difference to so many interns 👏   Only 4.8% of people in England / 4.1% in Scotland with a learning disability go on to secure paid employment once their education finishes compared to 80% of their peers - our initiative helps to close this gap and provide valuable work experience in our stores 🛒   Since launching in 2023, our supported internship programme has given 75 young adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to understand more about the workplace, learn new skills, and build their confidence.   We continue to celebrate our interns and promote more accessible pathways into paid employment within retail 💚   You can watch the debate here: https://lnkd.in/ewXeqqiX

🚨"Supported internships are a key part of the Government’s mission to ensure that all young people are supported to achieve the skills they need to be successful in the workplace, regardless of their background." 👩Yesterday, Jodie Gosling MP led the first ever debate on supported internships in the House of Commons. We know how life changing supported internships are. But in this debate, the Department for Education and new The Labour Party government formally recognised the important role supported internships play in helping young people with learning disabilities and autism into employment. It was wonderful to hear MPs raise awareness of their local programmes and quote interns and graduates, with many saying their interns had gained confidence and employment. We are proud to be part of the Internships Work consortium with NDTi - National Development Team for Inclusion and BASE (British Association for Supported Employment) and will continue to work to transform the lives of young people. ➡️ In case you missed it, you can watch the debate here: https://lnkd.in/ewXeqqiX

Earlier this week, the Asda Muslim Network ran a ‘Fast With Me’ day, giving colleagues the chance to experience fasting, as well as learn and understand the significance of Ramadan 🌙 Colleagues from across our stores and Home Offices took part in fasting for the day, coming together with Muslim colleagues for a day of reflection, unity and to get a feel for what colleagues and customers experience while fasting. Our Home Offices Colleagues then joined each other for a delicious Iftar (breaking of the fast) meal in the evening - hear why they took part and what they took away from the experience ✨ #Ramadan #AsdaMuslimNetwork

In tribute to Newcastle United Football Club hero Dan Burn, Asda Blyth have retired the number 33 trolley porter jacket to commemorate their former colleague 💚 At the age of 16, Dan was a much-loved Asda colleague working part-time in the Asda store in Blyth as a Trolley porter, wearing a high vis vest, whilst studying sports science and playing football for Darlington🛒 Dan's stunning performance and goal in last weekend's Carabao Cup final helped the Magpies end their 70-year wait for domestic silverware following their 2-1 win over Liverpool - so it only seemed fitting to retire his trolley porter jacket in tribute🏆 The celebrations are to continue at the store too, as the local Community Champion is putting on a special "Dan Burn Day" this Friday, with all colleagues encouraged to wear the famous Newcastle black and white colours, and will enjoy a special matchday pie and pea lunch ⚫⚪ https://lnkd.in/eHQNEbSD

This week marks Neurodiversity Celebration Week – here’s how we celebrate and support neurodiverse colleagues at Asda: 🟢 Our Supported Internship Programme with DFN Project SEARCH (pictured) continues to support young people with special educational needs, providing them with the skills and confidence they need to gain employment. 🟢 Our Accessibility Inclusion Network gives colleagues a safe space to share their experiences, ideas and feedback so that we can all be great allies in the workplace. 🟢 A representative for the network also sits on our Colleague Advisory Panel – ensuring that neurodiverse colleagues have a voice and can feed into business-wide decisions to improve and promote accessibility at all levels of decision making. We’re passionate about creating an inclusive environment that enables all our colleagues to bring their best and true selves to work every day. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek

Today, we shared our FY24 performance results, reporting a 3.4% decline in like-for-like sales for the year to 31st December. While winning back customers’ trust takes time, we have a substantive and well backed programme of investment in price, availability and the shopping experience to deliver this.   We’re already making strong progress here, as seen through a number of highlights over the last year: 👋 Rollback has returned – and has now been expanded to 25% of Asda’s product range. 🟢 Our industry-first “Cashpot for Schools” campaign raised £5.7m for more than 21,000 UK schools. 📚 George continued to be the top choice for young families throughout 2024, demonstrated by our best ever Back-to-School season to date. 🛒 We invested £43m into store hours, and have already seen a positive reaction with availability and customer perception improving. 🙌 Our charitable efforts saw us raise a huge £3.8m for BBC Children In Need, and a further £8.7m for Tickled Pink.   💪 We’ve already seen our price advantage strengthen, along with improvements to customers’ perceptions of the value we offer.   And this is just the beginning of our journey to get back on course too. With the support of our shareholders, we will continue to significantly invest in our business to deliver value and to make Asda the top choice for hard-working families again.   You can find the full results here https://lnkd.in/eSh53TnE

🌟 Asda Awards Night Raises Over £60K for Veterans into Logistics! 🌟 Last Thursday was a memorable evening at the Asda Haulier Awards, where we celebrated the outstanding achievements within the haulage industry while raising an incredible £60,935.30 for Veterans into Logistics! The night was a glitzy, black-tie affair attended by the biggest names in haulage, complete with inspiring performances from the 103 Regiment Royal Artillery Pipes and Drums. Veterans into Logistics is one of Asda Logistics Services chosen charities spanning across 23 regional depots, making it our largest corporate supporter. During the event, Veterans into Logistics Ambassador, Major IAN (Batty) BATTERSBY, and the charity's Founder, Darren Wright, shared powerful stories about how the charity has empowered hundreds of military veterans through fully funded HGV driver training and employment support. Darren's emotional journey from rock bottom to founding the charity five years ago, following the tragic loss of his army friend, Jamie Doyle, highlights the urgent need for such initiatives. After serving 22 years in the Royal Artillery, Jamie, faced challenges that ultimately led to his untimely passing less than a year after leaving the Army. Veterans into Logistics aims to combat unemployment and poverty in the ex-military community by providing vital training, mentoring, and pathways to new careers as HGV drivers. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Asda and all the generous companies that contributed on the night. Your support is invaluable in helping Veterans into Logistics continue its mission! 💙🚚 Armstrong Group Ltd|PD Bannister Haulage Ltd|Stobart|Wincanton|McBurney Transport Group|Volvo Trucks UK|Great Bear Distribution Ltd.|Tiger Trailers|Menzies Distribution|The Reed Boardall Group|FLX Logistics|Maritime Transport Ltd|Matrix|MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company|2Excel Logistics Limited|Zenith|CMA CGM|Continental|MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company #AsdaAwards #VeteransIntoLogistics #SupportOurVeterans #HaulageHeroes

Did you know that the inspiration for best-selling author Lee Child's action hero, Jack Reacher, came from a trip to Asda Kendal? 💡 The author was a regular visitor to our store in Kendal, Cumbria, and at 6ft 4ins, he was often asked to reach up to the top shelf to fetch goods for our shorter shoppers - and one particular encounter inspired the iconic name. Lee Childs said "One Tuesday I walked into Asda in Kendal with a new hero in my mind. When I walked out, I had his name - Reacher. More than 30 years later, it's still my favorite supermarket ever. Thanks, Asda!" This week, we've unveiled a plaque at Asda Kendal, in homage to the inspiration behind Jack Reacher! 💚 https://lnkd.in/evJ4GEUn

Last week we celebrated #InternationalWomensDay with 120 school pupils, as we highlighted how together we can #AccelerateAction towards gender equality 💚 Asda colleagues told their inspirational stories and shared how they have overcome obstacles and empowered others along their career journeys, while activities throughout the day focused on encouraging pupils to make pledges to inspire future change. Through initiatives like this, we continue to be committed to empowering women and creating a culture where everyone of our colleagues and customers feels that they can belong.
