Fantastic news! Best of luck to all involved in February.
We're celebrating! The Pineapple Awards shortlist is out and we're delighted that Lee Valley Ice Centre is a finalist in the Climate Resilience category. Lee Valley Ice Centre was designed with sustainability at its core by architects FaulknerBrowns. Collaboration with Expedition Engineering Ltd means ice melt from the twin rink centre is filtered and used to sustain an ecologically rich wetland habitat outside the centre, whilst 300 solar panels provide power inside, green roofs, and landscape design and planting by LDA Design includes wildflower meadows, wildlife corridors and 150 new native trees. The centre's ecological credentials are now the centre of a Sustainability in Action programme for local school children run by our Learning and Engagement team in partnership with London Borough of Waltham Forest The Pineapples 🍍 recognise projects that make a positive social, environmental and economic impact in their communities. #Pineapples Joanna Asia Milewska Max Fordham LLP GLL The Developer and Festival of Place Dan Buck Stephen Bromberg shaun dawson Alison Moore (nee Halstead) Caroline Jenkins Jacob Ranson Tom Lee

Enjoyed selecting a number of events to inspire the new year, including GOD, the current exhibition at the Complex, FARMWORK at Void Arts Centre, the AAI’s site visit of the New Children’s Hospital, the Open House Annual Summit and the new Edna O’Brien documentary at the IFI. Over the fall months, the exterior work wrapped up at Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre in Edmonton, following the main structure having completed over the summer. The buildings curved exterior mimics the distinct velodrome shape inside. The inner volume, encompassing the velodrome and the below sports facilities, uses long-span steel elliptical trusses and is treated as a separate structure from the outer ring running track - which has been designed as a wood-steel hybrid ‘ribbon’ roof. Slated to open in 2026, the centre will be a world-class athletics and community facility, with a corridor connecting to the Peter Hemingway Fitness & Leisure Centre, allowing for year-round indoor triathlons to take place.
