Education Administration Programs
Putting a young person's passion for football at the heart of their learning.
About us
Football Beyond Borders is a UK registered charity which uses the power of football to transform the lives of children and young adults inside and outside full-time education. Our FBB Schools initiative works with Primary, Secondary and Further Education schools & colleges to engage and support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds experiencing behaviour and academic performance challenges. The young people we work with, 95% of whom are eligible for free school meals, are passionate about football but are underperforming academically. We harness their passion for football and give them the intensive, long term support to overcome their challenges and succeed at school and in life. We work very closely with our partner schools to tailor our delivery for the most beneficial outcomes. The high standards of coaching, tutoring and mentoring within and beyond the classroom environment, combined with the travel element of the Football Beyond Borders delivery, tackles the detrimental effects of limited budgets in education and the results of economic and social disadvantage. Our coaches and mentors are all FA qualified including Emergency 1st Aid & Safeguarding Children. The educational element of our delivery involves a full commitment to the educational and social development of the young people. Alongside this, our young people, are provided with a pathway into the professional game, including but not limited to, becoming qualified coaches, sports journalists and mentors themselves. Lots of food for thought at Labour Conference today 🧠 🌹 FBB's very own Ceylon Andi Hickman featured on an inspiring panel at the Youth Zone, discussing how we can open up employment pathways for young people with additional needs. Ceylon shared a powerful FBB story about a young girl in Croydon who grew up in a challenging environment without a trusted adult at home or school. This lack of support led her to struggle with regulation, leading to her regularly being removed from classrooms and waiting in corridors. But, through the FBB programme, she found belonging and a space to thrive, unlocking her passions and potential. 💪💫 At FBB we're calling for important systemic changes at Labour Conference and beyond: 🔑 A cultural shift toward a relational focus in schools, beyond just academics. 🔑 The need to track whether young people have a trusted adult in school—Edurio research shows 1/3 of young people don’t have this vital support. 🔑 Training and development for all school staff to be that trusted adult for students. These are essential steps to ensure every young person has the support they need to succeed. At FBB, we’re committed to making this happen. Special thanks to Helen Hayes for chairing the session – our local MP for Angell Town, a seasoned FBB advocate and now Chair of the Education Select Committee! 🎉 It was also fantastic to be joined by Sarah Smith, MP for Hyndburn, where we’re working with young people at Accrington Academy. We're proud to be making a difference in her constituency.

Pro Bono Economics’ (PBE) panel on 'Reversing the Decline in Children's Mental Health' left us with a mix of emotions. The alarming rise in young people's mental health challenges demands urgent and decisive action to safeguard the future of the next generation. Yet, it was encouraging to join a room full of mission-driven individuals, all committed to making a real difference in improving the wellbeing of children across the country. Key Takeaways: 🛤 We're on the right track: FBB received several honourable mentions, highlighting our leadership in the sector. 🤝 Community is key: Saqib Chaudhri FRSA, Principal at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, emphasised the importance of community care. His school works with 30+ local organisations to create a strong support network for children beyond the classroom. 🚫 Preventative care is cost-effective: Catherine Roche, CEO at Place2Be, referencing PBE data, shared that for every £1 invested in services, there’s an £8 return. This proves that investing in school-embedded programmes saves money in the long run, even with tight budgets. 👩💻 Charities must be involved early: Matt Whittaker, CEO of PBE, stressed that as the government focuses on breaking down barriers to opportunity, charities must be part of the conversation from the start, using their expertise to shape reforms in childcare and education. A big thank you to Cathy Newman for expertly chairing the panel! While the evening touched on the competitive nature of the charity sector—often feeling like crabs in a barrel, all vying for the same limited funding—there's still immense opportunity for collaboration. By uniting around our shared vision for young people, we can form meaningful partnerships and work together towards a brighter, more secure future. Our inbox is always open—reach out if you'd like to explore ways we can collaborate!

Last week at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Venus Gillette launched a powerful installation, 'Move Your Skin: Re-write the Rules' shedding light on the harsh realities female athletes face daily. At the event, FBB showcased our 'Validate It!' program, designed to empower girls to overcome self-doubt. We were honored to have Olympians Lotte Wubben-Moy, Becky Downie, and Emily Campbell join us for an inspiring panel discussion, demonstrating the remarkable achievements women in sports can reach when freed from body criticism and judgment.
