  • In February Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club teamed up with Football For Future to host a sustainability and climate change workshop with the U12s in the club’s academy for the third year running.   The workshop educated young people about the relationship between climate change and football and gave them an opportunity to explore sustainable solutions.   The U12s were enthusiastic throughout the session and showed considerable thought and creativity when coming up with their own solutions, as well as displaying their impressive geography knowledge!   Pippa Davis, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Player Care Officer said “This workshop delivered by Football For Future is a great example of how football can inspire and educate the next generation to take action on climate change and demonstrate how they can make positive change. The workshop was excellent and the group was engaged in the topic throughout.”   https://lnkd.in/etug4sHi

  • Ahead of their dedicated ‘Green Football Game’ today, we wanted to highlight some of the ways Oxford United Football Club are putting sustainability at the forefront of the club. 🟢 In support of Green Football's Great Save, they are encouraging fans to donate old sports kit at today’s match for recycling. 🟢 Together with their principal partner Baxi, they recently released ‘United’s Energy Playbook’ aimed at helping fans reduce energy consumption in their homes - a win for both fans’ wallets and the planet! 🟢 Plans for their new stadium have been shortlisted for a sustainability award from the Football Business Awards. The stadium will be the UK’s first major all-electric stadium and highlights of the sustainability measures include: 🌻 Increasing biodiversity with the inclusion of gardens. ☀️ Reducing carbon emissions by implementing solar panels and heat pumps, as well as having an active travel plan for match days and using low-impact materials to build the stadium. Fantastic work from Oxford United Football Club and shoutout to their Climate and Sustainability Lead Johann Hattingh and Development Director Jonathon Clarke! 👏

  • 🚨 BREAKING NEWS: The Premier League publishes their environmental sustainability strategy 🌱 Richard Masters, Chief Executive, said: “Premier League football is enjoyed by hundreds of millions of fans around the world. We have the ability to reach and influence a significant global audience, raising awareness of climate change issues and helping to inspire positive behaviour change." The strategy outlines three priority areas: 🛡️ Adapting the business, with the aim of becoming net zero by 2040 ⚡ Future-proofing the game by supporting decarbonisation across the Premier League  🤩 Engaging and inspiring fans by encouraging action through our programmes and platforms The publication of the Premier League Environmental Sustainability Strategy follows on from the League becoming a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework in 2021, committing to achieving net zero emissions by 2040.  We welcome this news - Premier League matches are the most-watched of any football league on the planet, reaching 920 million homes in 189 countries. This strategy is a crucial step in addressing the sport's environmental impacts, and inspiring wider action across society 🌍 We have already helped The Premier League to deliver on educating Academy players through the Premier League Lifeskills programme, with workshops for Manchester United, Newcastle United Football Club, Chelsea Football Club, Crystal Palace Football Club, and AFC Bournemouth. Green Football is back in the U.K. This season's initiative focuses on reducing kit waste, an often overlooked part of the beautiful game's carbon emissions. Fans, clubs, and players are being encouraged to repurpose or donate their old jerseys to help reduce waste and increase shelf life. Every fan loves their club's kit and in the past few years we have seen an explosion of demand for throwback kits. With recycling, upcycling, DIY repair videos and second-hand markets, there are so many ways to keep your favorite club kit alive. • 🌱 Yesterday was World Wildlife Day - and football can't survive without nature. So it was great to see that last week, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club became the first Premier League club to join the UN-backed Sports for Nature Framework, reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility. By joining, Spurs pledge to: ✅ Protect natural habitats and biodiversity ✅ Reduce environmental risks in their operations  ✅ Restore and regenerate ecosystems ✅ Inspire action on sustainability across sport The club is already implementing biodiversity projects, including tree planting, the creation of a wildflower meadow, wildlife ponds and pollinator monitoring at their training centre in Enfield, putting the lily in lily-whites 🌷 This work builds on their broader sustainability strategy, including their net-zero carbon goals and previous commitments to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, that pledges to achieve net zero by 2040 and halve carbon emissions by 2030. Protecting nature is a vital part of tackling climate change and an important goal itself - any efforts towards that get a ‘COYS’ from us 💪

  • We’re excited to welcome Alfie Steiner (@alfiecooks) as a Football For Future Climate Champion! 🌍⚽ A lifelong Arsenal F.C fan with a passion for sustainability, Alfie has built one of the most-followed food accounts in the world - with a humble 5 million followers on Instagram! 😮💨 With food being such an integral part of the football experience - and a key way to drive sustainable impact - we’re excited to team up with Alfie on more projects that creatively bring climate-conscious eating to the game. Last year, Alfie spoke as an expert on sustainable food to players in our Champions Community with Common Goal, and we also teamed up with Arsenal’s midfield maestro Lia Wälti to launch a plant-based Beyond Meat burger for the UEFA 2024 Men's Euros. More soon come. Read more here: https://shorturl.at/LrQSa 📹: Stefan Jerome

  • Earlier this season we worked with Brentford Football Club to design and deliver a club-wide sustainability staff training programme. Over 230 staff members, including on-field and off-field staff, the women’s first team, foundation staff, and academy players, took part in 18 tailored sessions designed to educate, inspire, and empower real action on climate change. The Impact: ✅ Understanding of climate change increased from 27% to 81% ✅ Motivation to drive sustainability in job roles rose from 69% to 92% ✅ 97% of participants found the workshops enjoyable, with over 50% selecting the highest possible rating This programme wasn’t just about raising awareness - it was about embedding sustainability into Brentford FC’s culture, ensuring staff across every department could play a role in making the club more sustainable. Since the training, Brentford has officially launched its sustainability strategy, and we’re already seeing departments integrate sustainability into their day-to-day operations. If you're interested in bringing sustainability training to your club - get in touch!

Last year, we worked with Football For Future to educate our staff on sustainability and the impact of climate change on football 🌍⚽ 250 staff took part, including our senior leadership, coaching staff, B team, Women's team and our catering, grounds and off-field departments. The training aimed to help our people understand how each individual can contribute to Brentford's sustainable journey. As a result, 92 per cent of staff felt motivated to drive sustainability in their job role, with teams already working together to set targets for meaningful action, as well as inspire change outside of the workplace.
