  • We’ve been selling paper from our home in Hull for 140 years, and with every sheet, we go out of our way to bring great quality, vibrant colour, and a touch of the unexpected together. It’s all built on a love of craft and the belief that paper isn’t just something you write on – it’s a canvas for creativity, connection, and groundbreaking ideas. A lot’s changed over the years, but one thing hasn’t: our unwavering belief in the power of paper to move people.

GF Smith by TEMPLO Templo led a comprehensive rebrand for paper company GF Smith, drawing inspiration from their 'gently radical' spirit and commitment to environmental and social causes. Through an open-source and collaborative approach involving all levels of the business, Templo established the brand positioning "GF Smith. Feel good papers," reflecting the company's evolution and future ambitions. Templo created a versatile, multi-platform branding system featuring an omni-directional logo that interacts across the brand architecture. Templo developed a vibrant, high-contrast color palette drawn directly from GF Smith's paper collection, while incorporating playful references to their home city of Hull, resulting in a future-facing identity that stands out in the paper industry while embodying the company's values and commitment to community. #branding #brandidentity #branddesign

Looks Good on Paper • New Logo and Identity for GF Smith by TEMPLO — 🧑💼 ABOUT THE CLIENT Established in 1885 by George Frederick Smith in London, GF Smith is a paper merchant that finds and delivers exceptional papers that are tactile in nature, vibrant in color, and distinct in range for use in the design, print, and craft markets. Apart from offering well-known paper brands like Mohawk, Cranes, Gmund, and Strathmore among others, GF Smith’s own Colorplan line available in a drool-inducing range of colors and weights has become an industry (and UnderConsideration) favorite. Based in Hull, a port city in East Yorkshire, England, GF Smith is a B Corp certified business well-known in the industry for being a super nice and conscious group of people. To wit, the company has reduced its annual CO2 emissions from 760 tonnes of carbon to 200 tonnes since 2018 and they donate 2% of their profits to the GF Smith Charitable Trust that directly supports the Hull community through grants and practical resources.  • 🦸 FROM TEMPLO “TEMPLO founders Anoushka Rodda and Pali Palavathanan were inspired by the humanity and warmth of GF Smith, its ‘gently radical’ spirit, and the company’s commitment to environmental and social causes – exemplified by the launch of the GF Smith Charitable Trust. Together, TEMPLO and GF Smith have evolved and elevated the brand, infusing it with energy, colour, playfulness and positivity.” • 🧑💻 BRAND NEW’S REACTION Overall, this is an excellent identity and a bold, confident, and joyous shift in tone for GF Smith that should help it further establish its good will and visual appeal with the creative industry and beyond. — #reviewed #branding #identity #2024 #brandnewbyucllc #beforeandafter #corporate #colorful #face #paper #proprietarytype #smile #UK Link: https://lnkd.in/gThX-jkR

Today the G . F Smith team are in Glasgow for INTL, where we will be showcasing our Colorplan Vinyl project within INTL’s Festival Marketplace 💿 🌈 This first-of-its-kind collaboration between paper, sound, and design, kicked off back in January at Manchester School of Art, and we are so proud to say that it has since inspired creatives across the world, from Dundee all the way to New York City! It began by setting Manchester School of Art graphic design students the brief of designing the cover art for our ‘Portal - the sound of colour’ vinyl album - a soundscape developed by father that reflects all 55 colours in the Colorplan range - and the rest is history! Watch the full documentary below, following the project from its fruition, to production at Pressision, Creative Print & Packaging, through to our first launch event in Manchester. 📹 Directed by Ben G. • 📣 Calling all London creatives! Join us this time next week for G . F Smith Presents: Falling Leaves by Paul Phung at Photobook Cafe in Shoreditch. We will be hosting a daytime drop-in session from 12-6pm - take a break from work to come and grab a coffee, catch up with our team and leave with your copy of Paul Phung's debut photographic book. Working closely with choreographers and performers, Paul Phung presents a photographic series of five acts grappling with the unspoken language of the body. With no discernible beginning or end to the publication, the reader unwittingly joins a dance, manoeuvring through a sequence of life-size clippings; weightless figures wrestle through internal dialogues. Falling Leaves obscures the distinctions between photographer and choreographer, reader and performer. Each act is underscored by writer Maisie Skidmore, whose stanzas weave between pages. Printed on Mohawk Superfine and Colorplan papers from G . F Smith, Falling Leaves celebrates the importance of photography, paper and print. 🔗 Learn more and RSVP here > https://bit.ly/40TsyBn We hope to see you there! Falling Leaves is published by Ex. Coda, designed by Map in Your Mind and printed by Pressision, Creative Print & Packaging.
