Great to see the new hybrid CLT and steel frame dining room extension is complete at the Grade II listed St Crispin's School, Wokingham. G-frame Structures Ltd were responsible for the design, supply and installation of the CLT roof panels for this interesting project which marries up the most contemporary form of offsite construction with the very earliest of the Government’s post-war pre-fabrication policies. There is a perfect synergy to the use of offsite construction for the new extension as the original School - built in 1952, is formed of a light steel frame with pre-cast concrete panels. At the time of building, St Crispin’s was an important prototype for the post-war Ministry of Education’s pre-fabricated schools programme, demonstrating how prefabrication techniques could be applied to multi-storey buildings. It is for this reason that the School was Grade II listed in 1993. Join us in congratulating our project team on the completion of 11 Belgrave Road, which has achieved the UK's first NABERS UK DFP score of 5.5 stars and was one of just six buildings to pre-certify for WELL Platinum. In addition, it has secured BREEAM Outstanding, WiredScore Platinum, and SmartScore Platinum ratings. The project provides 108,000 sq ft of Grade A office space along with 14,000 sq. ft of communal spaces and best-in-class facilities. It has repurposed the concrete structure and foundations of the existing 1950s building, substantially reducing its lifetime embodied carbon emissions. Designed for future disassembly, the new self-supporting precast stone façade has transformed the building visually, ensuring that it sits harmoniously in the conservation area. With a focus on wellbeing, sustainability, and user-centric design, the development provides light-filled, flexible floorplates with enhanced community assets, including an accessible café, gym, and co-working spaces for both commercial and community hire. Bio-based and recycled materials generate a welcoming environment, and wellbeing is further promoted with 13,000 sq ft of green space, with planting that weaves throughout garden courtyards, roof terraces and planted facades, also enhancing biodiversity. Great to see renewable structures of #masstimber being used for a residential build in Dublin by G-frame Structures Ltd with EDEN Architects, who highlight the inherent airtightness that allowed them to apply for Passivhaus Trust type certification. ____ ✅🔔 If you appreciate our posts, please follow, like, or share for more and scroll hundreds of quality posts on mass timber projects.
The G-frame Structures Ltd team is proud to have designed, supplied and installed the CLT structure for Teach Spruis in central Dublin. This carefully considered scheme is one of the first residential buildings in Ireland to use Cross Laminated Timber for the entire superstructure, from the ground up. The two-and-a-half storey family home by EDEN Architects was built on a small footprint. Living space has been maximized with the ground floor arranged around a double-height central space at the front and kitchen/dining room to the rear. Three bedrooms along with a mezzanine study are on three upper half-floors which are stepped around a central stairs and additional half-storey runs. CLT’s inherently high airtightness has helped to achieve an airtightness level of 0.55 ACH which meets the level required for Passive House certification, the process for which is currently underway. The G-frame team is currently on site installing the mass timber structure for this new reception building which features a large cantilevered overhang on three sides. A diagrid roof formed of 22.5 metre Birch glulam primary beams provides a focal point internally, complementing the Spruce CLT that forms the walls, floors, roof and staircase. The timber structure will be exposed throughout the building once complete. A beautiful day for the G-frame team to begin installing the glulam portal frame for Mounttown Boxing Club’s new single storey boxing hall by FOSCA Architects for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. The scheme, which is being constructed in the car park to the rear of the Mounttown Community Facility, comprises a boxing training area with adjacent support facilities including locker rooms, showers, toilets and medical room. The design approach breaks up the overall volume of the building and allows the introduction of clear storey lighting and natural ventilation to the boxing training area where it joins with support facilities. A canopy will shelter the entrance to the building. G-frame Structures Ltd were responsible for the design, supply and installation of the Glulam portal frame. Bracegrade Ltd. This stunning Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in London’s Fitzrovia, has been sympathetically restored and extended by SPPARC delivering four floors of first class workspace and amenities for a family office and two charities. At its heart is a unique hexagonal glulam structure which forms part of the roof on a new one-storey extension housing a kitchen and social spaces at ground-floor level and a terrace above. The striking sculptural feature is built from UK grown European Oak; its honeycomb form supports glass roofing panels and a secondary level of smaller hexagonal veneered oak elements that provide solar shading. G-frame Structures Ltd were responsible for the installation of this complex structure on a landlocked central London site, working around severe constraints that made the use of a crane impossible. To overcome these constraints we developed an installation strategy whereby small individual glulam sections could be carried manually through the building. The roof was then constructed manually in situ, with each section connected by steel restraint nodes and tension rods concealed in each of the timber lengths.
