Another day on the road visiting HOLEX members - great to be seeing first hand the amazing work of our colleagues in the sector! Matt Smith and his team do an incredible job!

Really interesting opportunity for colleagues in adult education.

October 9th, 4pm there is a a debate in the Commons lead by Antonia Bance. This will be a crucial moment for discussing the future role of Skills England, and its approach to addressing the UK's skills needs. This debate offers MPs the chance to shape the direction of Skills England, particularly before the formal consultation process begins. Given its broad scope, the debate will likely provide early insights into the priorities that MPs believe the body should focus on. To help the discussion HOLEX and its members have some key 'asks' we would like them to consider. Here's our Super Seven:

Skills England - the new body tasked with bringing together key partners to tackle the nation's skills needs - is taking shape but is far from fully formed. We are expecting consultation events in the near future. While we wait for these, MP Antonia Bance has called a Westminster Hall debate, taking place on Wednesday 9 October at 4pm. This will give MPs an early chance to say what they think Skills England should be and the Minister will respond. The WEA wants to see Skills England leading a transformation of adult learning. To do this it must be ambitious and inclusive. We hope that MPs will call for Skills England to support all learners and communities through a national lifelong learning strategy.

Had a fabulous morning in Whitechapel with Faruk Miah MBE and a lovely tour around one of their 5 Ideas Stores. Met some wonderful students and tutors in mid flow of teaching. Faruk has a really interesting mix of subjects and levels so was great to hear how Tailored Learning is being played out in the 'real world' of delivering an adult learning service. Faruk was also a great ambassador for HOLEX - telling everyone about what we all do as a body and a movement for adult learners.
