Congratulations to the new head teachers appointed. We look forward to working together as we progress the delivery of these important learning estate projects in partnership with East Lothian Council
We've appointed two new Head Teachers to lead Blindwells and Craighall Primary Schools and confirmed enrolment arrangements for children attending both schools from August. With construction well underway, Gemma-Rose Lansdown and Jamie Wilson have been appointed as Head Teachers for Blindwells Primary School and Craighall Primary School respectively. Once in post, they will be responsible for the establishment of their respective school communities, recruiting staff teams and developing their curricular ethos, vision and values. They will also build relationships with children and families who will be joining from August. Families who live in the catchment areas, or will soon be moving in, can now enrol their primary-aged children and find more about early learning and childcare arrangements. "The building is more than just bricks and mortar - it's a launch pad for the future" was an important message from the Deputy Head of Easthouses Primary in Midlothian today as we were invited back to celebrate the official opening with Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills Jenny Gilruth and Council Leader Kelly Parry. We were treated to poems, songs and a guided tour of the new facilities by its young people and it was fantastic to hear first hand how the school is making a real positive difference in ensuring each young person reaches their potential. Easthouses Primary can accommodate 459 pupils. It has 16 places to support children with Additional Support Needs (ASN) from across Midlothian Council, 80 pre-school places, and a small school for children who are deaf. Delivered on time and on budget for the start of the new school year in August 2024, jmarchitects were behind the design and Morrison Construction the main contractor. Well done to everyone involved in this project's delivery - it certainly got the thumbs up from pupils, staff, the community and elected members this morning! https://lnkd.in/eu2cVAD5

A significant step has been made towards restarting work on the Almondvale Crescent site to deliver Supported Housing for Young People and additional council housing in West Lothian after construction works were paused on the project following the administration of Connect Modular last month. Demonstrating the strength of our supply chain, partnership approach and the flexibility of the Hub programme, in less than eight weeks we have worked closely with West Lothian Council to navigate the complexities of the situation, appoint a new contractor and work is now underway again to provide this much needed supported housing for young people. Ogilvie Construction Ltd is experienced in the housing sector and we look forward to working together on this innovative project as we assist in realising our client’s commitment to the delivery of new affordable housing in West Lothian. https://lnkd.in/ekJ6magh

This week sees the 2025 Scottish Property Awards and we're delighted to have two projects shortlisted - East Calder Primary in West Lothian and Easthouses Primary in Midlothian. Today we look at Easthouses Primary School. The new Easthouses Primary School is a state-of-the-art learning facility for early years, primary school and ASN users, situated around a shared learning courtyard that puts outdoor learning, biophilic design and sustainability at the heart of its educational agenda. The project creates a unique and sustainable learning environment as well as a new focal point for the area, stitching together the existing Easthouses community to the north and new housing developments to the south. In addition to the benefits it’s delivering for its young people, the project itself leaves a lasting legacy locally through a range of social impact activities. Delivered by Hub South East in partnership with Midlothian Council, with jmarchitects behind the inspiring design and Morrison Construction as the main contractor. Well done to everyone involved and fingers crossed for tomorrow!
