Europe’s aviation leadership wasn’t built overnight : let’s make sure we secure it for the future through innovation leadership. I was honored to take part in the 4th rendez-vous on Europe’s commitment to sustainable aviation. Decarbonising our industry isn’t just about validating new technologies: it’s about integrating them in our products and industrial system and ensuring the long-term competitiveness of the European aeronautic sector. This requires bold decisions. To remain at the forefront, we need: ✅ Strong anchoring of our industry with the upcoming FP10 and continued research & innovation programs ✅ Inclusion of the sector in the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, alongside dedicated support for renewable and low-carbon fuels The aviation industry is specific. It’s time for the EU to recognise aerospace as a strategic sector. A strong, competitive aerospace industry means high-skilled jobs, industrial resilience, and European sovereignty. Our global competitors know this well: Europe must act decisively to stay ahead ! #SustainableAviation #Innovation #EUCompetitiveness #CleanAviation #Decarbonisation #Aviation Clean Aviation Airbus

  • Hydrogen in Aviation: Why the Industry Can’t Afford to Wait Airbus has delayed its ZEROe hydrogen aircraft project. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production is moving too slowly. Battery tech? Still not where it needs to be. With 2050 net-zero targets looking increasingly out of reach, is hydrogen still worth pursuing? Armando Brunini, President of ACI Europe, says YES. Speaking at the Clean Aviation Annual Forum, he made it clear: “Let’s not give up on hydrogen.” Here’s why: → Hydrogen is still a key piece of the sustainability puzzle. → SAF alone won’t be enough to get aviation to net zero. → The industry must act NOW on infrastructure or risk falling behind. Airports like Milan Malpensa are already mapping out hydrogen needs—100-300 metric tons per day. But there’s a challenge: transporting hydrogen safely requires pipelines, not trucks. The solution? Start small. Use hydrogen for ground vehicles. Build critical mass. Keep progress moving. Because if the infrastructure lags, airframers will push back their timelines even further. This isn’t just about sustainability—it’s about the future of aviation. What do you think? Can hydrogen still play a major role in aviation’s future? Drop your thoughts below. ♻️ Repost if you believe in keeping hydrogen on the table.

Seeking input for a research project on training and skills needs for hydrogen at airports! ✈️ Dear network. I am currently conducting research at Cranfield University on existing knowledge and understanding of hydrogen among air transport professionals. The aim of this work is to assess the nature and scale of existing skills and training gaps so that future education and training can be designed to most effectively help support and prepare the industry for handling hydrogen. If you are currently working in aviation and can spare 10 minutes of your time, please consider completing the short questionnaire survey below. You can complete the questionnaire as an individual or on behalf of your organisation. https://lnkd.in/e6SGwZ2u The research forms part of the ongoing Zero Emissions Ground Operations (ZEGO) project, supported by the Connected Places Catapult and the Innovation Launchpad Network+ (ILN+). Thank you in advance for your contribution! #hydrogen #aviation #sustainability #research

  • Hydrogen Hubs at Airports: The Future of Aviation? The world is moving towards net-zero. And aviation? It’s making bold moves. Enter Hydrogen Hubs at Airports—a game-changing initiative bringing together energy providers, airlines, and industry partners to make hydrogen-powered flight a reality. Here’s the challenge: ✅ Hydrogen fuel cells produce only water vapor. ❌ But for them to be truly carbon neutral, we need green hydrogen—made from electrolysis using renewable energy. ❌ Demand for green hydrogen? Way higher than supply. So, what’s the solution? Building the entire hydrogen ecosystem from scratch. ✔️ Where will green hydrogen be produced? ✔️ How will it be transported to airports? ✔️ What will hydrogen storage and distribution look like? Over 220 airports have joined the movement, looking at infrastructure investments to support hydrogen-powered flight—while also fueling ground transport and airport vehicles. And airlines? They’re already in. Delta, SAS, EasyJet, Wizz Air, Iberia, ANA, and others are part of the program, exploring how they can integrate hydrogen into their future fleets. Hydrogen-powered aviation isn’t just a dream. It’s a global effort in motion. Where do you see hydrogen’s biggest impact in the aviation industry? Let’s discuss. ⬇️ #Airports #LH2 #Hydrogen #SustainableAviation

  • Beyond Aero continues to make bold moves in hydrogen-powered aviation. The French startup just announced key design upgrades to bring its executive aircraft closer to certification. Here’s what’s changing: 1️⃣ A battery-free hydrogen fuel system → Featuring built-in redundancy with two separate electric engines, each with its own power source. → Now scaled up to 2.4MW of power, with future scalability in mind. With a unique high power density of the Fuel Cell Balance of plant, and heat rejection of the low grade heat. 2️⃣ A safer hydrogen storage system → Now mounted above the wing box, improving crash survivability. → Eliminates high-pressure fuel lines inside the cabin. 3️⃣ Advanced thermal management → A computer-controlled system with built-in electric fans ensures optimal performance in all weather conditions. Beyond Aero isn’t just innovating for sustainability—it’s also focused on cost efficiency. The company projects the economies of hydrogen make sense: ✅ Hydrogen will be 65% cheaper than synthetic SAF and 17% cheaper than Jet A1 by 2030. ✅ Lower maintenance costs due to fewer moving parts and the absence of a high-temperature turbine. Hydrogen aviation is advancing fast. Could it be the future of executive travel? Let me know your thoughts below! ♻️ Repost to keep the conversation going. https://lnkd.in/eRYdvAnG

The aviation industry is standing at a crossroads. Traditional fuels drive massive emissions. Hydrogen offers a cleaner path. A recent Cranfield University review (by Alireza Ebrahimi, Andrew Rolt, Soheil Jafari, Jon Huete Anton) takes a deep dive into liquid hydrogen (#LH2) as a fuel for aircraft gas turbines—analyzing insights from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Airbus #ZEROe, #ENABLEH2, Aerospace Technology Institute #FlyZero, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, and GE (General Electric GE Aerospace) Here’s what you need to know: ✅ LH2 offers zero-carbon combustion, but storage and infrastructure challenges remain. ✅ NASA’s early tests (1950s-70s) paved the way, but the tech still has a long way to go. ✅ Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and RTX are innovating with heat exchangers and cryocooling. ✅ Hydrogen-powered gas turbines could be game-changers for long-haul flights—while fuel cells dominate short-haul. The race for zero-emission aviation is heating up. What do you think will be the biggest breakthrough for hydrogen in flight? Let’s discuss. #Aerospace #SustainableAviation #Hydrogen #Innovation #AviationFuture #ZeroE #FlyZero #Cryogenic #LiquidHydrogen <Source: https://lnkd.in/eUUcJYp4>
