"IMO CARES Maritime Technology Global Challenge: Decarbonization Solutions Ready for Action" We are happy to announce the finalisation of four pilot project proposals aimed at reducing GHG emissions in ports across Africa and the Caribbean, selected through the IMO CARES Global Technology Challenge! These pilot projects, tailored to the specific needs of Mauritius, St. Kitts and Nevis, Namibia, and Trinidad and Tobago, encompass renewable energy production and port call data sharing — key prerequisite for implementing “Just-In-Time” operations and automated reporting. Each project is ready for implementation and marks an important step forward in scaling sustainable practices in the maritime sector. 🌍🚢 #SustainableShipping #Decarbonization #IMOCares #MTCC Caribbean #MTCC Africa https://lnkd.in/eKdAHxEv

What a wonderful in-person (pictured) turn out for the IMO CARES's event that looked at how market ready decarbonisation technologies can accelerate LDC and SIDS' progress towards the International Maritime Organization's #GHGEmission targets. In addition to speeches by Dr. Jose Matheickal Kamal Al Junaidi, MBA Anton Rhodes Petra Ahari and Captain Sukhjit Singh AFNI , we also had presentations by the winners of our #MaritimeTechnologyGlobalChallenge. Representatives from the five Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres (MTCC Caribbean MTCC Africa MTCC Latin America MTCC Pacific and MTCC Asia) talked about the challenges in their regions, but also the scope for decarbonation projects to greatly impact the countries in their remits. In particular, the implementation of technology across domestic shipping in one of these countries could serve as a template for implementation on a larger scale. Did you tune in to our event online? We want to know what you enjoyed about the session. #decarbonisation #shipping #ports

Wind Turbines and on-shore power are some of the technologies that can accelerate progress in Member States towards the International Maritime Organization's GHG targets. We are excited that workshops such as these are spreading information and helping to bring stakeholders together. Together, we can decarbonise shipping! #shipping #technology #Decarbonisation #ports #renewables #OPS #Turbines Dr. Jose Matheickal Anton Rhodes Petra Ahari
Exciting Update on the IMO CARES Project! On the 6 and 7 June 2024, SCASPA Port Authority hosted Strategic Innovative Initiatives (Sygtech), one of the winners of the IMO CARES (Coordinated Actions to Reduce Emissions from Shipping) Global Technology Challenge. Representatives from the International Maritime Organization and MTCC Caribbean were also present There was a strong sense of collaboration and excitement around the potential of Sygtech's innovative #windturbine #technology. With discussions underway on the potential for the integration of On-shore power supplies at the #port, we are thrilled to continue to explore unique applications of this technology within the port and to continue this collaboration for the development of a technical proposal. A huge thank you to all stakeholders for their commitment to this impactful project! Thank also to the Transport General Authority for funding this initiative. #IMO #CARES #RenewableEnergy #StKittsandNevis #Decarbonization Captain Sukhjit Singh AFNI Stephan Nanan Calvin Duggins MBA, MSc, BSc Shadine Julius, CPA Kervin FreemaN, Mervin Lewis, Damion Isles, Trevester Richards, Shawn O'Garro, Wayne Emeade, Solomon Powell, Daryll Lloyd, Denasio Frank, Tiffany Hodge, Rhondel Philip, Royan Matthew, Austin Lewis, Prof. Dr. Tarik Ozkul, Burhan Özmen Photo Credits: SCASPA Port Authority

🙋♀️ Have you have been wondering what we have been up to over the past few months? 📢 The answer is that we have been busy, busy busy! 🙌 Want to know more? We invite you to read this article written for Bunkerspot magazine by Petra Ahari, IMO CARES Project Analyst about all our activities in Africa, the Caribbean and of course our headquarters at the International Maritime Organization in London. 🏃♂️ The article outlines how we have worked hard 💪 to identify suitable market-ready technology solutions that will improve efficiency of vessels and ports and reduce operational costs and GHG emissions. We have already announced the winners of the Maritime Technology Global Challenge, and seen the impact that our CARES Connects events can have. We will soon be issuing a Report on Decarbonisation of Domestic Shipping - so STAY TUNED 🔔 . Thank you to Ian Taylor for giving us the opportunity to talk about our work - and to the strong leadership shown by Dr. Jose Matheickal and Anton Rhodes to ensure that the project delivers change in the two regions. We must also thank Vivian Rambarath -Parasram and Lydia Ngugi for the hard work of MTCC Caribbean and MTCC Africa in selecting the winning technologies for the global challenge. #decarbonisation #shipping #SIDS #LDCs #ports #technologies
