With Rachel Reeves reaffirming support for the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor, we are presented with an opportunity to rethink how we build and create new places and communities – one where nature and people can thrive together. In collaboration with The Wildlife Trusts, JTP conceived an alternative, nature-led vision for the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Arc. We call this vision 100 Miles Wilder; a bigger, better and joined up landscape at a national scale. This nature-led approach prioritises ecological networks, sustainable travel, and thriving habitats – ensuring economic growth and environmental stewardship can work with development. Rather than sidelining nature, we should embrace policies that recognise its integral role in placemaking. By working with the natural environment, we can create neighbourhoods and communities that are more sustainable, resilient, and enriching for everyone. Marleigh Phase 3 gets the green light!✨ Forming part of the wider Marleigh neighbourhood which JTP has been involved with since 2017, the third and final phase has now secured planning approval from Cambridge City Council. Together with Hill Group UK and Marshall, this third phase marks the final chapter of this new urban village for Cambridge East featuring 423 dwellings, prominent green spaces, community amenities and cycle and pedestrian enhancements connecting to Cambridge City Centre and beyond. JTP received high praise from Cambridge council officers for our design-led approach, focus on prioritising green infrastructure and the quality of architecture. Today marks a significant milestone as the Government launches the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) from Alconbury Weald - a place that JTP is proud to have designed as part of our commitment to creating sustainable and thriving communities. As a practice, we believe in designing places that enrich lives, and Alconbury Weald embodies this vision. Setting a new benchmark for thoughtful, people-centered planning, Alconbury Weald is a thriving, exemplary community home to over 1,000 dwellings, a new primary school, a local centre, sports facilities, community buildings, extensive green spaces and 290,000 sqm of employment floorspace including the Cambridge County Council headquarters. The updated NPPF has the potential to shape the future of our built environment, ensuring that planning prioritises sustainability, placemaking, and inclusivity. To see it launched from a project JTP has designed with Urban&Civic is both inspiring and rewarding - underscoring the importance of collaboration between masterplanners, designers, planners and communities in creating a legacy of well-designed places.
