We were delighted to host Year 9 pupils from Eastern High and take them for a tour around Caerphilly Castle, showing them the different trades currently at work whilst John Weaver Contractors are completing Phase 1 of the refurbishment to The Greathall, Fishermans and Watergate entrance, Inner East Gatehouse and the new wildflower garden. We were honoured to celebrate the first year anniversary of newly refurbished Marsh House which we completed for Pobl and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council Marsh House provides vital services and temporary accommodation for local young and homeless residents in Merthyr who are in crisis. The refurbishment of this former care home included the creation of bedrooms, break out areas and support spaces for staff, the replacement of several bedrooms with new en-suite bathrooms, mechanical and electrical works and general construction works. 🎉 Pontardawe Art Centre Refurbishment Update 🎉 for our client Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council: We are extremely excited to be getting closer to sharing this wonderful project with you. The scaffolding is starting to come down and we are working hard to maintain and restore the original part of the venue, while also working on a new creative and innovative cinema. This is so that Pontardawe Arts Centre can continue to develop, and be the wonderful and thriving creative space we all enjoy. The original cinema was unable to host new films regularly, but as we reach our handover date, this will no longer be the case with the new cinema being able to hold 70 at capacity. This has been a fantastic project for us to be involved with and we will look forward to showing you the end project very soon. We have been able to offer Leo valuable work experience in construction on our project with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, the new Ysgol Cwm Brombil School Hub. He has been presented with a toolkit on site today and new PPE as well as having further advice and options for a career in construction when he leaves school. Last week we supported Gors Primary School in their celebration of World Book Day! 📚 🌏 Gors Primary are a stones throw away from two projects we are currently undertaking for Swansea Council. The conservation of The Laboratory Building in the Hafod and The Kingsway Partition Works at 71/72 The Kingsway. We met children in reception and Year 1 and discussed all things construction and read them their favourite books, encouraging literacy and reading skills. We have lots of future engagement with local schools and colleges coming up, promoting these projects and enhancing our offerings to the wider community and we will look forward to keeping you updated on these as we progress. ⭐ SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT AT SANDFIELDS PRIMARY HUB ⭐ It was a pleasure for our team to meet Year 5 & 6 pupils at the school where we took part in their assembly and assisted in their learning topic of 'Castles' for this term, showing them all of the listed castles our conservation team have been working on, including: 🏰 Castell Coch 🏰 Caerphilly Castle 🏰 Margam Castle 🏰 Hay Castle They were then taken out of class to hear from our Site Manager at the Sandfields Primary Hub which is set for completion in April. The children are excited to have their new hub which will consist of a classroom, office, toilets, store and meeting room. We hope we have inspired them to look at the different careers and apprenticeship routes they have available in construction and have left them materials to look up all of the opportunities #careersinconstruction.
