About us

We turn visions into reality. As a main contractor, we construct new buildings, alter, refurbish and remodel existing dilapidated buildings, and fit out interior spaces. We have built a reputation for successfully delivering complex schemes through collaboration with many of the best design teams and clients in the country. The foundation of this reputation is strong long-term relationships combined with an uncompromising commitment to an extremely high quality product. We strive to take ownership of projects and their challenges, becoming the driving force every successful project requires. Our team provides the sustained coordinated effort of communication and cooperation between the large number of diverse organisations involved in a project, as well as the enthusiasm required to make it successful. The majority of our projects are in Central London and the surrounding home counties. They include various new build schemes, heavy and structural refurbishment and fit out projects: • The construction of new commercial office space, often for internationally recognised brands and developers. Our expertise is divided equally across complex refurbishment, new build and pure fit out projects. • Working with recognised brands and organisations to create modern retail space, hotels or leisure facilities such as spas or sporting venues. • Building state of the art education facilities for leading UK schools and education organisations. • The creation of a home of unquestionable standards of quality for private Clients. Our experience in this sector includes examples of both new build and refurbishment schemes in some of the most prestigious locations in London and the home counties. • The construction of multiple dwellings for residential developers, often with high quality services installations and finishes. • Many of our projects are undertaken within buildings which are either listed or of historical interest.

  • Some projects are just so memorable that we can not resist revisiting them periodically. The Royal Academy Schools at the Royal Academy of Arts is no exception. Our project here saw the transformation of the School's space to provide a fully accessible, flexible and high-quality work environment for its staff and students. Through careful restoration and enhancement of the historic building fabric, new facilities and contemporary spaces have been provided. A new studio suite and workshops have been introduced along with a new library, commercial kitchen, canteen facilities and acoustically constructed recording and performance spaces. • At Knight Harwood, we know that the future of our industry lies in the hands of the next generation. That’s why we’re committed to providing young talent with the skills, experience, and opportunities they need to thrive.   Through our training and apprenticeship programmes, we support future professionals in construction management, quantity surveying, and engineering, helping them build strong foundations for a successful career.   Alex Tarrant, now a Senior Project Manager, joined Knight Harwood through our graduate scheme thirteen years ago. He believes that without this tremendous start in the industry, he would not be where he is today. His journey highlights the impact of investing in young professionals and the opportunities that apprenticeships and training programmes can create.   This National Apprenticeship Week, we celebrate the apprentices and trainees shaping the future of construction. #nationalapprenticeshipweek #apprenticetraining #graduatetraining #loveconstruction

  • We are excited to share the news that our projects Grainhouse with Hines United Kingdom and Newson’s Yard with Grosvenor have been nominated for RIBA London 2025 awards. Both these projects are unique and historically significant spaces that have interesting previous lives. Grainhouse started life as a Victorian brass and iron foundry, then the headquarters for a seed merchant, and in the 1980s it was transformed into fashionable boutiques and cafés. Newson’s Yard, built in the 1840’s was the oldest continuously operating timber yard in the U.K, withstanding a fire in 1877 and the blitz! #RIBAawards #loveconstruction #awardnominee

We are excited to introduce Davies House, a sophisticated workplace project in the heart of London for a private client. This 22,850 sqft workplace seamlessly blends hospitality-focused design with professional functionality. The scheme features a striking timber ribbon that wraps through the space, creating an organic, forest-like atmosphere that promotes wellbeing and calm. Key features include a guest meeting suite with flexible executive boardroom, a tech-free library space, and interconnecting floors linked by a feature spiral staircase. The design emphasises flexibility, with adaptable team rooms and meeting spaces that can evolve with our client's needs. Sustainability was paramount in our approach. The scheme incorporates FSC-certified timber, recycled materials, and demountable elements to ensure longevity. We worked closely with carefully selected partners including Knight Harwood, Cundall, and Heyne Tillett Steel to deliver this exceptional space. The material palette focuses on natural elements and neutral tones, complemented by carefully curated furniture from leading manufacturers including FRITZ HANSEN, Fredericia Furniture, Icons of Denmark and Herman Miller. Completion: November 2024 #workplace #design #architecture #sustainability #interiordesign #london

  • We are delighted to announce two senior management promotions, which continue our strategic development of the business and our plans to futureproof our approach to successful project delivery. Dan Miller and Peter Howe joined the Knight Harwood board of directors from the start of February. Both of these gentlemen have been with the business for over 10-years and have been at the forefront of delivering some of our most prestigious projects, whilst also showing a clear understanding of our culture and desire to complete every project to the highest possible standards. Dan and Peter both hail from a strong construction and project management background and will add further delivery and leadership strength at board level, reinforcing our ambition to provide a first class service and product on every scheme. Our managing director, Oliver Driscoll, said, “The directors would like to welcome Dan and Peter to the board. They have both shown a constant desire to beat our clients’ expectations and have tremendous drive, enthusiasm and energy to really influence the successful outcome of our projects. They want to take complete ownership of project delivery and have implemented exciting business initiatives which have improved many technical aspects of our operations. They are both very much Knight Harwood people who understand our ethos and desire to deliver extremely high quality projects. Congratulations to them both”. #maincontractor #loveconstruction #strongteam

  • Today, we would like to revisit a past project to create eight new luxury apartments that sympathetically respect the surviving historic fabric of the existing building. Built in 1905 and located on a highly sensitive site adjacent to St. James’s Palace, this Grade II listed building was returned to its original grandeur through a complete rebuild and refurbishment scheme. We're pleased to share the news that Arding & Hobbs has the prestigious honour of being one of the National and International winners at the 2025 CIVIC TRUST AWARDS. Established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning, and design in the built environment, this accolade marks out our project as one of the most significant of the past year. With previous winners including the Royal Festival Hall and the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome, Arding & Hobbs now rightly finds itself amongst esteemed company. Our retrofit of the Grade II listed landmark in #ClaphamJunction, with Stiff + Trevillion Architects, has not only allowed us to protect and restore the 19th century building, but given it a new lease of life with an active high street frontage and modern office space in the upper floors. Thank you to the Civic Trust Awards jury. 📸 : Richard Chivers

  • Meet James White, a project manager in our Special Works team. James tells us about his experience of joining Knight Harwood. "Joining Knight Harwood from a smaller firm felt like a big jump at the time. However, the team here made me feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door. Working alongside like-minded individuals has helped my progress as a project manager and to develop my skills, specifically with putting proposals together, getting projects off the ground and the handover procedures. I have worked on a variety of interesting projects in all sectors and have enjoyed the journey immensely so far."
