Meet the team! 👋🏼 Nick Meakin, Pre-construction Director – Nick joined us in 2022 with extensive experience, having previously led a pre-construction team for a £70m turnover business. His early career as a Commercial Manager proved insightful, with exposure to diverse projects from large new build luxury hotels and airports, to intricate, detailed fit-out schemes. Situated in an acre of landscaped grounds in Chelsea, this former Edwardian school building is the product of a ten year partnership between several signature architects and interior designers. Our special projects team were tasked to undertake the fit-out of a 6,000 sq ft apartment within the scheme. The emphasis throughout was to create an elegant residence, in a palette of rich tones and sumptuous finishes. The aesthetic is a considered mix of artisanal craftmanship and includes bespoke hand-painted De Gournay wall coverings, fine lacquered carpentry and bronze detailing. We are honoured to learn that our project “The Gilbert & George Centre” has been longlisted for the RIBA MacEwen Award 2025.   The RIBA Journal MacEwen Award was launched in 2016 to discover and celebrate architecture with a greater purpose – architecture that perhaps takes a little bit more effort, but that has significantly more impact as a result. The MacEwen Award is named after Anni and Malcolm MacEwen - an urban planner who pioneered a conservation-based approach to regeneration in both town and country. It’s great to see that the Award has grown over the years and remained dedicated to foregrounding responsible architecture that acts in the wider interest through projects guided by a strong social ethos, advancing social or environmental goals with inclusion, sustainability and community involvement.   The Centre was established by Gilbert & George as registered charity to champion art education for the public benefit. Epitomizing the artists’ “Art for All” ethos it breathes new life and purpose into the architecture and surrounding neighbourhood. As extension of the duo’s lifelong endeavour it encapsulates an enduring dedication to fostering culture for the broader community. Carefully crafted as a generous gift to the public it reminds of the area’s history providing a lasting future home, engaging with community and education groups, welcoming a diverse global audience and focusing on its core values of inclusivity across demographics, accessibility to art and free admission.   We’d like to thank everyone who contributed during this project's journey since 2015 and congratulate all other longlisted teams for adding more common good in both our built environment and society. This project involved the forming of a new full basement to the footprint of the property, the major rebuilding of the above ground structure and the comprehensive remodelling of the internal layout and fit-out of the property, incorporating a fine palette of finishes. The welcoming interior includes a well-appointed drawing room and sumptuous velvet lined dining room. The use of fibrous plaster mouldings, skirting and detailing sympathetic to the period style feature throughout. This scope of works called for the remodelling of the interior space from its current use as a noted gallery, with the introduction of offices to the ground floor level. This included demolition works of the existing steel staircase and the infilling of the staircase void. The reception area was relocated to serve the new layout and full height partitioning formed, creating an open office environment allowing the maximum amount of light transfer throughout the office space. Situated within an elegant listed frontage, Cristea Roberts Gallery consisted of the formation of light and generous exhibition spaces over two floors. Completed and delivered on schedule to coincide with Frieze London, the gallery comprised of a capacious private viewing room, art storage and office accommodation. Located along Carlos Place, this former bank and art gallery is The Row’s first retail space in London, adding to their existing Los Angeles and New York stores. The 7,500 sq ft boutique was constructed to an accelerated 13 week programme, creating two retail shop levels, changing rooms, M&E / back of house facilities and a new feature staircase.
