Stiff+Trevillion makes elegant, human-centred architecture that stands the test of time. Our work is confident, unpretentious and tasteful, using simple materials in a painterly way to sit with poise within its context. Architecture is an inclusive, social profession: we work with clients, artisans, builders and bureaucrats to create tangible, three-dimensional outcomes. There are around 65 people in our busy, friendly, west London studio. To reflect the breadth of our portfolio, we share a wide range of skills. Our team not only includes architects, but also technicians, modelmakers, visualisers, interior and product designers. We believe design can deliver change. In the face of the climate emergency, our best action as architects is to make that change through our work, building on the fundamentals of volume and light, minimising waste and putting the existing fabric first.

Clapham Junction, we are HOBBSESSED with you! On Wednesday night at the Offsite Awards, Clapham's Arding & Hobbs was crowned #winner of the 'Commercial Project of the Year' category. We’re incredibly proud of the team’s hard work, dedication, and collaboration that has gone into revitalising this #historic 19th-century building . Designed by prominent Victorian and Edwardian architect James Glen Sivewright Gibson, Arding & Hobbs is located adjacent to the modern-day Clapham Junction station: the UK’s busiest railway interchange. Today, the building stands as a symbol of both Clapham’s rich history and its dynamic future, offering a mix of retail, dining, and office spaces. A massive #congratulations to everyone involved in making this project a reality! Let’s continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible in architecture and construction. We worked hard with our team to deliver something unique, and create a product that we couldn’t find anywhere else in the market. With a first-class design by Stiff + Trevillion Architects and working in collaboration with Cundall we were able to harness the power of reuse to achieve unrivalled environmental performance and amenity value. We are delighted that Barratt Developments plc and GBL Capital can share in that, and look forward to the next stage of life at Suffolk St James's.
Heitman and Greycoat Real Estate LLP are delighted to welcome Barratt Developments plc to Suffolk St James’s SW1, taking the 3rd floor as their new central London corporate office. This letting underpins our thesis for delivering best-in-class assets capable of attracting the very best occupiers. Suffolk St James’s offers unrivalled levels of amenity amongst its peer group, and we are close to delivering fully fitted suites on the remaining vacant 2nd, part ground, and lower ground floors = please visit https://lnkd.in/ehnHY7R5 or contact our agents Craig Norton Ian Bradshaw or Amy Skidmore at Edward Charles & Partners or James Campbell Gina Stevens or Matt Waugh at Cushman & Wakefield for further information. As the season turns, Michael Stiff finds himself in nostalgic mood looking back to his first term at university, (the Polytechnic of Central London (PCL) as was) studying architecture. You can join his Proustian moment by reading his latest blog, 'Remembrance of Things Past (or off to university, 1974)' as Mike reflects on his tutors, the university buildings - and lack of debt. https://lnkd.in/esd2DrfH Photo: Architect's model of proposed Marylebone campus - Image courtesy of the University of Westminster Archive UWA/RSP/7/a/1/4

Where can you bring together artists and town planners, museum curators and architects, charities and developers, teachers, musicians and faith groups? Over the past 18 months, an incredible sense of community has blossomed at the beautiful, Grade II* listed Holland House and it’s growing stronger with each passing week. This is thanks to the 6000+ people who have stepped through our doors and made Holland House their home. This week, we were thrilled to host an event at Holland House to bring together both current and future users of the space for a day of connection and networking. The Bury Street team, including representatives from BGO, Stiff and Trevillion, DP9, and Kanda, joined the Holland House community to discuss exciting plans for the future. The gathering was a fantastic opportunity to bring together those who have shaped the space, and share the future vision, which continues to be driven by the needs and aspirations of its users. This event marks just the beginning of an exciting journey for Holland House as a thriving community hub, with endless opportunities and connections yet to be made. As Alex Feldman of Dairy Meadow School highlighted in his inspiring speech, Holland House is not only about creating a safe space for communities to come together, express themselves, learn, and grow—it’s about laying a strong foundation that will inspire and uplift future generations. Throughout the summer, the gifted filmmaker Matthew Somerville from Wondering Minds CIC crafted a captivating short documentary showcasing the vibrant use of Holland House. The film highlights how Holland House has thrived as a hub for social interaction and inclusion, providing a welcoming space where people come together, forge connections, and overcome isolation. It also plays a vital role in preserving local identity and culture by hosting community events, artistic performances, and cultural celebrations—all while promising an exciting future ahead. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the evening’s film: Juliana Bearse from Actors Touring Company, Dr. Sharon Wright, founder of The Learning Crowd, Gemma Dean from Creative Land Trust, Troy Richards and Femi Iloyi from The Museum of Diversity, Alex Feldman Deputy Head at Dairy Meadow School, Suzanne Gorman from the East London Community Band, Sarah Gee FRSA from Spitalfields Music (wearing many hats!), and artist Hugo Dalton. Get in touch if you’d like to hear more about Holland House and our exciting plans for its future. We are delighted that our project for Grosvenor, Newson’s Yard, was awarded 'Highly Commended' in the 2024 Architects’ Journal AJ Retrofit and Reuse Awards. The Judges said, "This existing builder’s yard on Pimlico Road has been adapted into a retail space with a public route through the site. The design is simple to retain as much of the existing as possible: a naturally lit, double-height space with mezzanine levels inserted to each side formed of CLT and brick. This ‘imaginatively done’ and ‘really coherent’ scheme of ‘beautiful architectural merit’ was awarded a highly commended as the judges thought it set a precedent for inspiring other clients. ‘It has a specialness to it,’ they said We think it’s pretty special too. Thanks to all who worked with us on this lovely project.
