🌍 🤝 We're united against waste crime in Lincolnshire 🌍 🤝 We're delighted to share some fantastic outcomes following a coordinated day of action to combat illegal waste activities. Operation Clean Sweep took place on Thursday 6th March with roadside inspections in Boston and site visits in Skegness conducted by the ECP. The operation resulted in: *️⃣ Five vehicles found carrying waste unlawfully *️⃣ Three vehicles seized *️⃣ Discovery of one new illegal waste site *️⃣ Multiple fines issued for waste offences This collaborative effort involved ECP partners - Environment Agency, Lincolnshire Police, British Transport Police, Boston Borough Council, East Lindsey District Council, and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Stuart Hoyle, Environment Agency Waste Crime Specialist and Vice Chair of the ECP, said: "Large scale waste crime and fly-tipping can only happen through the use of vehicles, which is why operations such as Clean Sweep are vital for tackling waste crime. The operation uncovered crime, prevented offences and gathered a wealth of intelligence to aid future investigations." 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eP4jq988

We're pleased to see such a fantastic result from one of the latest members to join the Lincolnshire Environmental Crime Partnership 👏 🌍 Newark and Sherwood District Council have been successful in their prosecution against a resident from Claypole who failed to provide assistance during the investigation of a fly-tipping incident last year. Failing to provide assistance or information is an offence and can have damaging consequences on our environment. It is important we share this valuable message to remind all residents they have a part to play in protecting our environment from environmental crime.
This week we were successful in our prosecution against Ms Doran from Claypole. Ms Doran failed to assist officers in the investigation of a fly tip in Fernwood in April 2024. It is an offence without reasonable excuse, to fail to provide assistance or information reasonably required by an authorised person in exercise of their duties. Ms Doran has been fined £660 with a victim surcharge of £264. We were also awarded £492 towards investigation and prosecution costs. That’s a total of £1416. We take environmental offences incredibly seriously and we will take decisive action to ensure the contained protection of our environment.

🚨 The Lincolnshire Environmental Crime Partnership Annual Report for 2024 is here! 🚨 This year, we’ve worked in collaboration to tackle fly-tipping and environmental crime across Lincolnshire with stronger enforcement, education, and community action 🌍♻️ This year, we’ve established three key priorities as a partnership with a renewed focus on deliberate fires and wildlife protection, planning for future operation days and exploring the Fixed Penalty Notice matrix and process. Our ECP partners have worked together to see a significant reduction in fly-tipping and illegal waste activity. As well as sharing best practice and aligning public messages, some key highlights include: ✅ A 60% drop in catalytic converter thefts ✅ 13 individuals prosecuted for large-scale illegal waste activity ✅ Reduction of fly-tipping by 10% following targeted action ✅ National recognition at the APSE Street Cleaning Seminar We’ve also looked at new education initiatives to engage young people in waste crime prevention. Local authority educational packs and lessons are already being delivered in schools with more planned for 2025. Together, we’re making Lincolnshire a cleaner, greener place. Hot off the press 🗞️ Three men were arrested earlier this week as part of an Environment Agency and Cambridgeshire Constabulary investigation into large-scale, organised deposits of waste across across counties including Lincolnshire. Bales of waste were found in coloured plastic wrap disguised as farming bales 🚜 The Environment Agency are urging landowners, businesses and members of the public to report any plastic-wrapped bales they see in suspicious places, which are unlikely to be silage or hay stored by farmers or equestrian facilities. 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/esQDsk2C #LincolnshireEnvironmentalCrimePartnership #FlyTipping #SCRAPFlytipping #WasteCrime

It's an exciting time for families across Lincolnshire as Bonfire Night approaches 🔥 We're asking our partners to work with us to remind residents of their need to be mindful during this time of year. ✅ Bonfire materials need to be secured to prevent illegal dumping ✅ Environmentally friendly materials like paper, untreated wood, branches and a small amount of leaves will help protect the environment. Burning furniture or household rubbish can produce fumes that pollute the environment and damage out health. ✅ Bonfires should be kept under control to protect people and buildings. ✅ It's important that anyone planning a bonfire is responsible and that they don't burn waste from waste operators. Concerns should be reported to the Environment Agency or their relevant local authority.

🤝Householders have a duty to ensure that their waste is disposed of responsibly by using an authorised waste carrier. 👏 We love this initiative from one of our partners North Kesteven District Council in ensuring that householders know of all the reasonable steps needed to ensure their waste isn't illegally dumped. 📂This handy record is an important reminder for householders to carry out all the necessary checks when arranging for waste to be taken away. It doesn't take away their responsibility, but it could help protect them if their waste does end up dumped by a carrier - despite all of the checks being in place. #SCRAPflytipping

🌍 The Lincolnshire Environmental Crime Partnership's latest social media campaign highlights the risks of improper waste disposal and dispels the myth that acting irresponsibly 'just' once couldn't do that much harm, could it? ☠️ If every household in Lincolnshire had that attitude, the beautiful county we call home would face significant pollution from dumped waste - not to mention the negative impact and harm on people, wildlife and livestock. ⛔ Finding a cheaper way to dispose of waste is not worth the risk. #SCRAPflytipping 🔗 Find out more about our work: https://lnkd.in/ejU_q9jE

Fantastic initiative from Boston Borough Council 👏 The Council will pilot a Community Skip Service to combat fly-tipping and provide local residents with a convenient way to dispose of bulky items and unwanted rubbish. Cllr Callum Butler, the Council's Portfolio Holder for Environmental, said: "With this pilot scheme we hope to see it have a positive impact in reducing fly-tipping in this area of Boston. "The town centre location has been chosen because of the cases of fly-tipping in this area so we are taking a proactive approach, trying something different and see if that has a positive impact. "Following the pilot we will assess its success and there could be a chance this becomes a regular service which could lead to the extension of the scheme as well as in other hotspots of the borough, including village locations. ➡ Read the full story on the Council's website: https://lnkd.in/ejUx5tXd
