Tower Crane is coming down, my fair lady! 🎶 Another great #SiteUpdateFriday as the team at Plumstead College is making great progress delivering phase 1 of the planned development. The Tower Crane supplied by our regular partner, Radius Group had successfully and safely completed all its planned lifts. These included precast concrete columns went the reinforced concrete frame was erected right through to the installation of the balconies on the outside face of the building. This is a mixed-use development in partnership with London South East Colleges, where L&Q are building 294 new homes and the College and Kier Group are delivering cutting-edge educational facilities next door. The L&Q team is led by Paul Murray, Michael O'Hare and Fehervari attila, who coordinated with the Radius team and the engineers for a successful removal. We look forward to the next tower cranes being erected for Phase 2! Watch this space for more updates.
About us
L&Q is one of the UK’s leading housing associations and developers. We were founded on a simple belief: high quality housing is vital for people’s health, happiness and security. Everyone deserves a quality home that gives them the chance to live a better life. Today that passion about the importance of housing, and our not-for-profit ethos, gives us our social purpose. All our resources and all our energy are channelled towards providing better housing at a lower cost than can be provided in the private sector – and building more of it. We provide greater security of tenure and services people can rely on. 250,000 people call our properties ‘home’, and we’re proud to serve diverse communities across London, the South East and North West of England. It’s important our 3,000-strong workforce reflects the residents we serve. We have been named one of Britain’s top LGBT+ employers and one of the best workplaces for women and wellbeing.

When you picture the trades industry, what comes to mind? For many, the typical tradesperson will still be an older, white male, working tough and long hours. But Felicity, a 34-year-old Maintenance Supervisor at L&Q, is breaking that mould - and she's inviting others to do the same. It's time to rewrite the narrative. Women belong in trades - and we're hiring. See our vacancies here: https://brnw.ch/21wRu9e Keep your eyes peeled to learn more about Felicity's story #Madeintrade #Wherearethewomen #IWD

L&Q reposted this
Calling all women in the trades, our industry needs you! Last week, we asked you what percentage of tradespeople are women. The answer? Just 2%. That makes the trades the most male-dominated industry in the UK. With a national skills shortage, we can’t afford to overlook half the population. Read more about the industry's gender gap here: https://brnw.ch/21wRfsn A career in the trades is future-proof, flexible, and fulfilling – but too often, women are discouraged from joining. Jobs for the boys? Not anymore. Explore opportunities today: https://brnw.ch/21wRfsm #Madeintrade #Wherearethewomen #IWD

How much do we know about the impact of hormones on our colleagues’ daily lives? To mark International Women’s Day, our gender diversity staff network, Inspire, set out to answer that question through an afternoon of learning, conversation, and even a little bravery. Colleagues heard from expert speakers from Randox and Over the Bloody Moon, exploring important topics like women’s hormones, menstrual cycles, fertility, perimenopause, menopause, andropause, endometriosis and many more. For a hands-on perspective, four brave male colleagues took on the ‘Crampsta’ period pain simulator, experiencing first-hand what menstrual cramps can feel like. Pictured below – a mixture of their reactions including shock, respect and newfound understanding. Rose Cooper-Thorne, Head of Marketing and Inspire network member said: “It was inspiring to see colleagues openly share personal stories about their hormone health and help normalise these conversations in the workplace. Everyone walked away with a deeper understanding of conditions that affect so many – at work and beyond.” #InternationalWomensDay #HormoneHealth #MenstrualHealth #IWD2025

Providing new social tenancies to the 323,800 households on London’s waiting lists could inject at least an additional £7.7bn a year into both the London and UK’s economy. Social landlords are ideally placed to deliver much-needed housing in London, but we are under severe pressure, especially in the capital. In Housing Today and The G15’s new State of the Capital report, we outline seven recommendations to the government to unlock this potential: 1) Rethink grants with an amortising model 2) Reclassify affordable housing as critical national infrastructure 3) Take a holistic view of London’s financing and rent policies alongside devolved funding 4) Reintroduce rent convergence 5) Ensure access to the Building Safety Fund 6) National policy to consider regional costs and skills shortages 7) Introduce a long-term joint funding pot for investing in existing homes The time for action is now. The recommendations in this report can help ease pressure on our housing system, boost the economy, and deliver lasting change for Londoners. Read the full report here:

💬 “Everyone can always learn from someone else and different ways of working to achieve an outcome are always good in my opinion. That’s why working together as a team is so important, to ensure that all issues that arise are ironed out as quickly as possible." Did you know women make up only around 14-15% of the construction workforce? In such a complex industry, with a large number of roles, the workforce should also be diverse. However, many women still view construction as a purely male sector and are discouraged from even applying for these roles. Natalie Gloster is a Lead Administrator in our Production team and she has been our colleague for almost six years. She leads on our Sub-Urban, North-West and Legacy schemes, supporting teams and development directors with a range of tasks. The developments she works on at the moment collectively deliver more than 4,500 new homes and she plays a huge role in making sure that happens. Natalie enjoys the variety of her day-to-day role and declares there’s always something to learn – especially from others, which is why diversity and inclusion are crucial in the industry. Natalie’s story is part of L&Q’s #MadeinTrade campaign, which celebrates the trades as an attractive career choice for all. Her success is proof that women deserve to be in this space as much as any other tradesperson—and that diversity will only strengthen the industry.
