Today, I had the privilege of participating in a thought-provoking session at the World Orphan Drug Congress Europe, discussing how we can collectively reduce the burden of rare diseases across the patient journey. Hearing from patients reminded me that beyond clinical breakthroughs, it's essential to focus on solutions that improve day-to-day life. Innovation isn’t just about science—it’s about driving change where it matters most for patients. We must invest in both clinical and "softer" factors like education, psychosocial support, and access to trustworthy information. These elements may not always be understood through the same lens as clinical outcomes. If we don’t speak the right language to regulators and policymakers, we risk losing opportunities to make meaningful progress. Ultimately, the future of rare disease care relies on collaboration. We need to think beyond traditional approaches, engaging all stakeholders—patients, researchers, governments, regulators, and industry—in a joint effort to create a more comprehensive support system. It's not just about treatment; it’s about empowering patients to live the best lives possible. A big thank you to all the participants in today’s discussion for sharing their insights, who brought invaluable perspectives to the table. It’s time to think differently, work together, and make a real impact.
