Huge thanks to Minerals Matter STEM Ambassadors Dr Rob Donnelly for hosting a group of A Level students from Wales High School Academy Trust in Sheffield at the The National Stone Centre earlier this week. Rob and another volunteer, Jim Ridding, lead an activity using the Geosteps to discuss the concept of geological time, and the importance of minerals. This visit is part of a calendar of visits that the National Stone Centre has in the diary for this academic year. Staff from Heidelberg Materials UK Ribblesdale Cement Works regularly support local careers events, and here are Toby Wood, Quality Technician and Emily Heaton, Environmental Analyst representing the company at Ribblesdale School in Clitheroe during their careers fair. Toby has been through the Heidelberg Apprenticeship programme and Emily has completed the graduate programme so both are fantastic ambassadors for the company. As a sector it is so important for us to engage young people in the industry and the wide range of opportunities available within it. Our graduates and apprentices took part in a STEM event and training day today 🎓 The group learnt about the STEM ambassador scheme, aimed at addressing the challenges around recruiting and retaining talent within the minerals sector, and then polished up their skills in a CV and mock interview workshop. The event ended with a speed networking session, giving our early talent the opportunity to engage with industry stakeholders and build valuable connections.
