We are delighted that the hybrid planning application for Smithfield Birmingham has been approved by Birmingham City Council. Minesh Patel Architects has been working on one of the plots, a 12-storey mixed-use office building providing 20,000sqm of office space and a mix of retail and leisure facilities. The building will sit on Manor Square, a brand new events and gathering space that will play host to cultural events for thousands of people. Designed in collaboration with Haworth Tompkins, Arup, HDR, Fira Landscape Ltd, Meinhardt Group, OFR Consultants, Acivico Group, Ramboll, Buro Happold and Cundall, the office targets BREEAM Excellent, WELL Building Gold and NABERS 5 Star certifications. The 17 hectare, £1.9bn regeneration project is a joint venture between Birmingham City Council and Lendlease. The largeley vacant site will become a new urban quarter, creating a new home for Birmingham's historic Bull Ring Markets as well as new leisure and cultural buildings. It's been fantastic working alongside the wider design team, including RCKa, dRMM, Intervention Architecture, David Kohn Architects, EASTSIDE PROJECTS LIMITED and Field Operations. We look forward to progressing this exciting development! Images: Haworth Tompkins, Dematerial, Lendlease, Pixelflakes #mineshpatelarchitects #Birmingham #Smithfield #regeneration #sustainability
