Two dRMM projects have been shortlisted for RIBA London Awards 2025. WorkStack has been shortlisted for London (South East) and Wick Lane for London (East). WorkStack is a new model for introducing high density industrial space on compact, urban sites, primarily constructed from engineered timber. Designed for Greenwich Enterprise Board to be affordable to rent, operate and maintain, its 14 workshops house a mixture of light industrial and creative uses. Wick Lane is a co-location scheme providing 175 homes and 2250 sq m of commercial space in Hackney Wick for Taylor Wimpey London. The homes are a mixture of affordable, shared ownership and private sale while the workspace accommodates a range of businesses and services from hairdressers and a tattoo studio to branded workwear providers and a rug making workshop. We’ll be taking the RIBA juries round both in the next few weeks; showing them the buildings, talking through our sustainability and social value strategies, and introducing them to residents and businesses who occupy the spaces. Award-winning projects will be announced this spring. Thanks to everyone who worked on these two projects Arup Adrian Campbell B&K Structures F Parkinson Ltd Webb Yates Engineers Venables Associates Tibbalds AECOM Tradestars Sophie Franks Design.

Book your place at our #HealthyBuildings2025 Conference & Expo on 26th February, 9:30-17:00 in London. https://lnkd.in/dZGjnBKw . Our afternoon talks begin with a focus on healthy indoor environments. We are delighted to have Professor Michael Davies of UCL to kick off this session. His presentation is titled Health Co-benefits of Climate Action for Housing. Mike Davies is Professor of Building Physics and the Environment, at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. His multidisciplinary research interests relate to the complex relationship between the built environment and human well-being. Professor Davies has been appointed by the Climate Change Committee as an expert adviser to support the publication of the progress report. Mike Davies is followed by Chryssa Thoua who will talk about her deep dive into measuring and monitoring VOCs in schools. Chryssa is an architect at Architype and a PhD student at UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering. Her research into this topic resulted from a collaboration between Architype, Historic England, and UCL, and explored aspects of the indoor environment in school buildings and, in particular, Passivhaus primary schools in the UK. The final topic of this session is 'Quality of Life and Decarbonisation'. Kat Scott and Finbar Charleson will give a presentation on dRMM research funded by the Built by Nature Accelerator Fund. This research study looked at the whole life carbon and quality of life impacts of mass timber buildings. Thanks to Built by Nature's commitment, dRMM investigated how to define what good looks like for timber buildings, providing a scalable method for understanding the carbon and wellbeing benefits of mass timber, as well as how they can be maximised across national and international development. Book now for #HealthyBuildings2025 - a conference and Expo with One Click LCA, Ecological Building Systems, Bereco , Buckland Timber, Double Helix Tracking Technologies, PEFC UK Limited, PYC Group, and Interior Design Declares - UK. 26th February 2025 | 9:30-17:00 | The Human Rights Action Centre (at Amnesty International UK), London EC2A 3EA. https://lnkd.in/dZGjnBKw.

The Times has shone a spotlight on Earls Court today. With London’s housing crisis never far from the news agenda, Andy Silvester reports on how major destinations like Earls Court can play a pivotal role in bringing forwards the homes Londoners need, all while shaping the future of our capital. ECDC is unlocking the potential of London’s largest cleared development site, in a way that prioritises community, green spaces, and economic growth. With our masterplan including c. 4,000 new homes, 35% of which will be affordable, 20 acres of public space, and a hub for innovation and sustainability, we are creating a new piece of city that will deliver jobs, homes and investment, and make a significant contribution to the London and UK economy. dRMM are working with ECF on Farmer Norton, one of the early developments in their 240-acre Crescent Salford Masterplan with a design team which includes Max Fordham LLP, re-form Landscape Architecture Ltd, Clancy Consulting and Identity Consult. The project is in two phases; the first phase for 42 Passivhaus classic certified townhouses has just been submitted for planning approval. The second phase will accommodate around 150+ homes across two Passivhaus classic certified apartment buildings and will be submitted later in the year. The unusual name of the project is in recognition of the metalworking machinery business, which was founded on our site in 1852, but is now a car park for the University of Salford. Our plans for the first phase of Farmer Norton are based on a recently developed low rise housing product which dRMM worked on with Muse, one of ECF’s collaborating partners along with Homes England and Legal & General. In 2024 we designed a series of Passivhaus housing prototypes which can be adapted to any of the sites in their portfolio. In this case the three-storey brick homes sit across six rows and will be built in sand or red brick with contrasting metal roofs. dRMM is particularly excited about Farmer Norton as this is our first #Passivhaus project to reach planning. Construction for phase one will start on site this summer, creating an exemplary development that sets a new standard for sustainable design, social value, and meaningful placemaking.
