Learning from the AME Roundup in Vancouver: Living in Vancouver and attending the AME Roundup, I am experiencing firsthand a remarkable model of collaboration between the government and private sector in mining. This partnership is essential for fostering responsible and sustainable mining practices. Observing these practices has led me to reflect on Colombia's potential, where mining is an economic cornerstone. In the past, we had similar congresses, but they have been disappearing. It's crucial that we revive these events, focusing more on technical and social aspects rather than political debates, to promote and highlight the importance of ethical and sustainable mining practices.#AMERoundup #SustainableMining #Colombia #MiningInnovation

History of the Croesus Mine at Munro-Croesus Project: Delve into the historical significance of the Croesus Mine, a cornerstone of Onyx Gold's Munro-Croesus Project. This mine, steeped in a rich history of gold production, represents a promising indication for exploration initiatives. Established in 1914, the Croesus Mine has remained a focal point of Ontario's gold mining landscape. Its reputation for bonanza-grade gold production is substantiated by tangible artifacts, such as the five Croesus mine gold specimens housed in the esteemed Royal Ontario Museum. These specimens collectively weigh 85 pounds and contain 480.7 ounces of gold, boasting an impressive yield of 11,310 ounces gold per short ton. Adjacent to the Munro-Croesus property, significant multi-million ounce bulk tonnage gold deposits further underscore the region's geological wealth. Noteworthy projects include Fenn-Gib and Tower Gold, alongside the operational Black Fox underground gold mine. Historically, between 1915 and 1936, the Croesus Mine yielded 14,859 ounces of gold from 5,333 short tons, boasting an average grade of 2.78 ounces per ton gold. This production figure excludes ore directly shipped to the Royal Canadian Mint, emphasizing the mine's substantial contributions to the gold supply chain. As we reveal the exposed Croesus vein in the mine shaft captured in the photo, we're reminded of the grit and ingenuity that built its legacy. This snapshot of geological history isn't just about the past—it hints at exciting possibilities for future exploration. At Onyx Gold, we are constantly reminded of the legacy of the Croesus Mine—a symbol of Ontario's rich mining heritage and a catalyst for ongoing exploration endeavors. "The acquisition of a 50% stake in Rio Narcea Recursos, S.L. ("RNR") reflects the continued execution of our strategy of acquiring significant projects in highly prospective and tier one mining jurisdictions in #Spain. The acquisition gives us ownership in the only #nickel deposit in Spain and one of the few in Europe. With our Zancudo Project in# Colombia already on track to commence production in #2024, this acquisition gives us a second mine going into operation next year with Aguablanca set to resume #production through underground mining in the next 12 months. The acquisition also accelerates our path to production from our flagship Lomero Project using excess capacity available in RNR's 5,000 tonnes per day ("tpd") processing plant. Our technical expertise and location of assets in the nearby Autonomous Community of Andalucia makes us uniquely suited to benefit from the synergies derived from a combination of the Lomero and Aguablanca Projects. We look forward to continuing our work to help the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia and Extremadura become frontrunners in #sustainable raw material technologies and practices to support the European climate neutrality goal and increase local well-being." - Serafino Iacono, Executive Chairman and CEO of Denarius Metals (Company Press Release dated December 5, 2023). Executive Director & Founding Member | Green Cross United Kingdom: Focused on Sustainability in order to make the world a better place for us all!
Mining is Not Sustainable, but can be Climate Positive! Mining plays a crucial role in the energy transition and decarbonization of our economy. Responsibly extracted minerals are essential inputs for the manufacture of clean technologies, such as batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines. However, traditional mining has often been criticized for its negative environmental and/or social impact. Fortunately, most mining companies have adopted a more responsible approach, incorporating practices that prioritize environmental preservation and the well-being of local communities. These new modalities of sustainable mining optimize the use of resources such as water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and develop social programs that benefit the communities near the operations. Far from being an option, this responsible mining has become essential to move towards a sustainable and climate-positive economy. Promoting and adopting these sustainable mining models is key to fully harnessing the potential of natural resources in the fight against climate change. Our contribution to the event will be to present how to reduce socio-environmental risks to have safe and sustainable mining projects.
