A great conservation project, we're so happy to have been part of the team!

Last week the crane lifting continued at Scotland's National Retrofit Centre.    The panelised facade system, manufactured offsite in our innovation factory, uses homegrown cross laminated timber, natural fibre, high performance hemp insulation, passive house certified triple glazed windows and resilient timber cladding.   Thank you to the panel delivery team and supply chain: Ecosystems Technologies, Clark Contracts, IndiNature, 21 Degrees and Russwood.    Gavin Johnston | John Gilbert Architects | Lùths Services | Brown + Wallace | Narro | High Six

As we move forward with the refurbishment at the Pipe Factory, we're excited to share more behind-the-scenes insights into our design process. The window replacement was carefully considered to balance heritage preservation and energy efficiency improvement. The current single-glazed windows need replacing to improve thermal performance of the building. We’ve studied the building’s history, including its sister building around the corner at 28 Bain Street which was once included in the original Pipe Factory complex, and the retrieved window samples, which were removed in 2015, to create historically accurate window details. We aimed to retain and reuse as much of the original materials as possible, like concrete upstands and lead flashing.
