Congratulations to our Dublin Express colleagues for becoming the first coach operator in Ireland to run its fleet on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil 🌎
🌏As of today, Dublin Express has become the first passenger transport operator in Ireland to transition its fleet of coaches from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) which means, over 2 million passengers that it will carry between its Dublin City routes to Dublin Airport can now assist in benefitting the environment by taking this mode of transport. Derived from used cooking oil, HVO reduces CO2 emissions by 90 per cent compared to diesel coaches. One coach running on diesel produces the same emissions as 12 coaches operating on HVO, so the environmental benefits of HVO are profound ♻️ Rory Fitzgerald, General Manager of Dublin Express, said: “The shift to HVO is a real game-changer for Dublin Express, putting the wheels in motion for decarbonising mass passenger transport. Festivals and events are a strategic revenue stream for National Express - and this week has been booming in more ways than one. We operated more than 30k passengers journeys across Boomtown Festival last weekend and the Taylor Swift concerts at Wembley Stadium where we are exclusive coach partners. Passengers tell us they value the comfort and convenience of our services. For festivals in particular, the ability to carry luggage sets us apart and, for event travel, customers are taken to the heart of the venue with ease. None of this would be possible without our fabulous NX team, volunteers and our valued partner operators. They go above and beyond and as a result, more customers are travelling with us each year. Reflecting on their own apprenticeship, our Data Protection Officer Chloe Smith has this advice for others: “Take it all under your wing – the good and the bad. Take in all the experiences that come your way as it will all be over far quicker than you expect, and you will want to have the support of your manager, senior leader and coach in Damar Training. Never be afraid to ask for help and ensure your employer works closely with Damar, as mine did. It was one of the reasons I succeeded.”
This is Chloe Smith, an Information Governance Officer at National Express LTD. Chloe embraced the challenge of information governance with dedication and a positive attitude, starting her journey as an apprentice with Damar. Chloe was one of the first people to complete the data protection and information governance apprenticeship. Her training helps her to support customers, as well as develop and deliver data privacy processes – a goal she had since first starting the apprenticeship. Our Senior Coach Station Manager Andrew Leonard went along to the opening of the brand-new Halifax Bus Station last week 🎉 The new and improved facilities are excellent and will certainly benefit National Express customers using the new station to connect to our 564 coach service to London (via Sheffield and Milton Keynes) and our 465 to London (via Leeds and Nottingham)
We’re working together to build a stronger, better connected region, where bus travel is everyone’s first choice. 🚌 Today, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and Calderdale Council opened the new Halifax Bus Station. Alongside improved facilities, safety measures and better access, the new station will enable passengers to switch between bus services more easily. It also has solar panels, cycle parking, a new “green roof” covered in bee-friendly plants and more green space for people to enjoy. National Express LTD announces surge in coach passengers for Birmingham Airport ✈ In the six months to the end of June 2024, the UK’s leading scheduled coach operator has seen a nearly 40%* increase in passenger journeys to and from Birmingham Airport, compared to the same period in 2023.
