Nature4Climate aims to increase action on natural climate solutions in support of the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

About us

Nature4Climate is a multi-organization strategic communications platform to help raise the profile of natural climate solutions and catalyse action on the ground. Natural climate solutions are proven ways of storing and reducing carbon emissions in the world’s forests, grasslands and wetlands, and better stewardship of the land also has impact on other critical environmental, social and economic benefits, which are less well understood. These solutions are available immediately, are scalable and can transform key sectors of the global economy, such as forestry and agriculture – and they are available almost everywhere on the planet. Despite the fundamental science being very well understood, action on land use remains much underused as a climate strategy – lacking the funding and attention that has helped kickstart the energy transition. We use creative communications and advocacy to influence international climate policy, national government policy, and private sector action on implementing natural climate solutions between now and 2023. We bring together voices from governments, IGOs and NGOs, and business – underpinned by a steering group with communications and advocacy representation currently from CBD, CI, TNC, the UNDP, WHRC, WRI and WWF.

  • There is no climate or economic solution without nature. Governments must incorporate nature into policy, and businesses and investors must recognize the economic opportunities of preserving and restoring ecosystems. 🍀 Today, the Nature4Climate coalition is excited to announce the launch of its new unbranded campaign: ➡ WITH NATURE. A flexible platform, the new campaign calls out to diverse sectors to take action and advocate for nature´s agency in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises as they reach a turning point. Together, we can LEAD WITH NATURE. We now nominate Crowther Lab | ETH Zurich to join us in this campaign and share their commitment to act with nature. #WithNature #ClimateAction

  • As we celebrate International Day of Forests today, let's recognize the critical role Indigenous communities play in protecting the #Amazon. In Peru, home to the second-largest share of the Amazon after Brazil, grassroots financing models and initiatives like #REDD+ are empowering communities to: 1. Restore degraded lands 2. Promote sustainable agroforestry 3. Grow deforestation-free cacao trees One such community, Chimatani Tayori, is managing and safeguarding over 400,000 hectares of rainforest—roughly 1.5 times the size of Luxembourg. Their efforts are preventing about 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to taking 40,000 cars off the road. But we need to scale up our efforts. Governments, businesses, and individuals must work together to: 1. Support Indigenous-led conservation efforts 2. Increase funding for sustainable land-use practices 3. Advocate for climate policies that protect the Amazon 👉 Read more about this inspiring story on UNEP's site: https://lnkd.in/d8PpJXDz 📸 Tom Bewick and Patricia da Matta/Nature4Climate

Nature can be up to one-third of the climate solution. But how much can it help each country with the new 2035 targets? To highlight this, the Nature4Climate coalition is releasing an analysis comparing countries' carbon reduction targets with the potential of natural climate solutions, using data from the free naturebase platform (https://lnkd.in/e6jX328K). For example: 🌴 Brazil could achieve up to 60% of its target by leveraging nature-based solutions. 🦜 In Ecuador, nearly the entire target could be met through reforestation. 🔗 Check the comparison of the other 22 new NDCs: https://lnkd.in/ebvv_fJN

  • 🌍Nature's Role in Meeting 2035 Climate Targets✍ Nature can be up to one-third of the climate solution. But how much can it help each country with the new 2035 targets? To highlight this, the Nature4Climate coalition is releasing an analysis comparing countries' carbon reduction targets with the potential of natural climate solutions, using data from the free naturebase platform. The analysis shows that many countries could meet a significant portion of their targets through protecting, conserving, and restoring ecosystems. These actions also help communities adapt to climate change's most severe consequences. For example: 🌴 Brazil could achieve up to 60% of its target by leveraging nature-based solutions. 🦜 In Ecuador, nearly the entire target could be met through reforestation. While the analysis doesn't judge ambition levels, it emphasizes that protecting nature, combined with strong energy transition measures, can enhance climate action plans. The data also suggests that financing nature-based solutions in developing countries is an effective strategy to boost global climate goals. 🔗 Check the comparison of the other 22 new NDCs in this link: https://lnkd.in/ebvv_fJN Peter Ellis Clare Shakya Ben Jack Patricia da Matta James Lloyd Chris Zganjar Ximena Apéstegui John Verdieck Lucy Almond The Nature Conservancy

  • This March, the UK will host the inaugural Nature Tech Week, with events scheduled in London and Cambridge. Over 600 innovators, leaders, policymakers, and changemakers will gather to discuss the future of nature tech. The enthusiasm surrounding this event and the strong community built over the past years demonstrate that nature tech is no longer a fringe idea; it is a critical climate solution. The market was valued at $2 billion last year. On March 27th, the Nature Tech Summit, one of the three key events of the week, will take place. During this day-long discussion hosted by Nature4Climate, more than 30 world experts will come together to convey a clear message on: 🛰️ how nature tech can serve as a tool for climate resilience in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape and 🌲 a direct response to the global threat of nature loss, which could cost the global economy up to $5 trillion in the coming years. 👉 For an overview of the week and to explore the hot topics, please click here: https://lnkd.in/dPeNS_pD #NatureTech #WithNature #NatureFinance #Conservation #Startups #NatureInvestments #ClimateAction #NatureLoss
