There is no climate or economic solution without nature. Governments must incorporate nature into policy, and businesses and investors must recognize the economic opportunities of preserving and restoring ecosystems. 🍀 Today, the Nature4Climate coalition is excited to announce the launch of its new unbranded campaign: ➡ WITH NATURE. A flexible platform, the new campaign calls out to diverse sectors to take action and advocate for nature´s agency in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises as they reach a turning point. As we celebrate International Day of Forests today, let's recognize the critical role Indigenous communities play in protecting the #Amazon. In Peru, home to the second-largest share of the Amazon after Brazil, grassroots financing models and initiatives like #REDD+ are empowering communities to: 1. Restore degraded lands 2. Promote sustainable agroforestry 3. Grow deforestation-free cacao trees One such community, Chimatani Tayori, is managing and safeguarding over 400,000 hectares of rainforest—roughly 1.5 times the size of Luxembourg. Their efforts are preventing about 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to taking 40,000 cars off the road. But we need to scale up our efforts. Governments, businesses, and individuals must work together to: 1. Support Indigenous-led conservation efforts 2. Increase funding for sustainable land-use practices 3. Ahead of COP30, all nations that signed the Paris Agreement must submit new Nationally Determined Contributions that serve as action plans with targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. To highlight this, the Nature4Climate coalition is releasing an analysis comparing countries' carbon reduction targets with the potential of natural climate solutions, using data from the free naturebase platform. The analysis shows that many countries could meet a significant portion of their targets through protecting, conserving, and restoring ecosystems. These actions also help communities adapt to climate change's most severe consequences. For example: 🌴 Brazil could achieve up to 60% of its target by leveraging nature-based solutions. 🦜 In Ecuador, nearly the entire target could be met through reforestation. While the analysis doesn't judge ambition levels, it emphasizes that protecting nature, combined with strong energy transition measures, can enhance climate action plans. This March, the UK will host the inaugural Nature Tech Week, with events scheduled in London and Cambridge. Over 600 innovators, leaders, policymakers, and changemakers will gather to discuss the future of nature tech. The enthusiasm surrounding this event and the strong community built over the past years demonstrate that nature tech is no longer a fringe idea; it is a critical climate solution. The market was valued at $2 billion last year. On March 27th, the Nature Tech Summit, one of the three key events of the week, will take place.
