  • Howay the lads ⚫⚪ The leader of Newcastle City Council, the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff wish the Magpies all the very best for Sunday’s League Cup final. Cllr Karen Kilgour joined Cllr Rob Higgins and his deputy Cllr Henry Gallagher who will be among the legions of the Toon Army heading to Wembley to see the clash against Liverpool. Like the rest of the Magpies worldwide they will be praying that Newcastle bring to a close their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. Dare we dream. C’mon!🔥⚽

  • Meet Zainab Ghurair 👋 She's the 1000th learner to be supported by the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Service delivered by Work and Thrive Newcastle, the city’s employment and skills support partnership. Since its launch at the beginning of 2024, the ESOL service has already supported more than 1000 people to improve their language skills, with Zainab becoming the milestone learner earlier this year. She said the service had been a fantastic support which has helped her to progress her own English speaking and writing abilities. “It’s better than anything else I’ve tried to help my language,” she said. “You get a lot of benefits and it’s improved my English more than anything else I’ve done. “Language is the door to everything. Everyone should be able to learn and practice and make friendships while they’re doing it, which is what I was able to do. “It’s been a brilliant place to learn and improve.” See the link in the comments to find out more 👇 📸 Zainab pictured with Cllr Dan Greenhough , Cabinet Member for Economy, Jobs and Skills (left) and Ian Raby (right), Active Inclusion Officer (ESOL). • Inspiring our city ✊ Last week, we proudly joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day, honouring the achievements of women and championing gender equality. As part of this special occasion, we invited residents to shine a light on the incredible women who have inspired them by sharing their stories. The response was truly inspiring. We’re thrilled to showcase these heartfelt tributes in a special celebration book, which you can explore via the link below. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported this event. This is just the beginning, we’re committed to using this momentum to continue driving gender equality in our city.

St Oswald's Hospice has confirmed its popular summer arts trail is returning for 2026, and we're thrilled to be supporting them 💙 The main character remains under wraps for now, but we look forward to finding out who's following in the footsteps of Shaun, Elmer and the Great North Snowdogs next summer 🐾 Cllr Karen Kilgour, Leader of Newcastle City Council, said: “St Oswald’s is one of the great institutions of our city, providing incredible levels of care and compassion for people and their families at the most difficult of times. “We’re hugely proud to be sponsoring their 2026 art trail as we have in previous years, helping St Oswald’s raise the vital funds it needs to continue its extremely important work."

  • Proud to see our communities celebrating together ♥️ Ramadan Mubarak to everyone in our city recognising the holy month of Ramadan. On Saturday, Cllr Karen Kilgour and Cllr Alex Hay, Leader and Deputy Leader, had the honour of attending a multi-faith Iftar at Newcastle Cathedral. Iftar is the name of the meal eaten when Muslims are breaking their daily fast.
