Last night, I had the opportunity to sit down with TV writers and showrunners from shows such as Star Trek, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Futurama through Pathos Labs // PopShift to talk about how mainstream narratives can better reflect pluralistic and equitable futures, centering the focus on climate resilience and diverse lived experiences. What if we challenged dsytopias and tech-led imaginaries by offering more stories where the future isn’t monolithic or linear but varied, full of possibilities and a celebration of identities as our collective strength? A huge thank you to the School of International Futures (SOIF), Sarah Spencer, Next Generation Foresight Practitioners, and Nicole C. Allred at Omidyar Network for making “Untold Futures” possible. #UntoldFutures #ClimateFutures

We're excited to announce 2023 Fellow Ammaarah Nilafdeen as the recipient of this year's NGFP $10,000 Prize. At the end of their fellowship year, fellows are invited to apply for a $10,000 fund to put towards scaling their project. This year, we received 16 brilliant applications from a cohort of 24, showcasing how fellows have progressed on their projects and how they plan to scale. It was an extremely tough decision to make for the judging panel, and we're deeply grateful to all fellows who have taken the time to apply. Ammaarah will work closely with communities on the ground in creating early-warning systems to combat anti-minority violence and incidents in Sri Lanka. We'll be sharing more about her plans and project soon. Congratulations Ammaarah ✨✨

Today, we celebrated the end of the first year of the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners 2023 Cohort. But the journey has truly only just begun, starting with an announcement/re-introduction of my work: 📢 What began as a creative storytelling project on the side of my core freelance sustainability and climate justice consulting, is now the home of everything I do! HOW IT STARTED 🚀 The Climateverse began as a creative storytelling project: a fictional newscast—imagining a parallel dimension where humanity is taking bold, transformative action on climate and social justice. And I began the year as a mere freelance sustainability and climate justice consultant-facilitator, helping organizations align their strategies with the UN SDGs and working with communities to understand climate change and advocate for climate justice. As I learned more about futures and foresight through NGFP and the School of International Futures (SOIF), the more I understood that my sustainability work is inherently about "futuring," i.e. imagining and making sustainable futures possible. This realization and personal evolution fundamentally reshaped my approach, moving me toward a practice that uses futures as its core through-line. WHERE WE ARE NOW 🌎 I’m proud to introduce The Climateverse in its evolved form: a transformation lab and creative production studio. ✨ We combine futures and storytelling to offer strategic and creative advisory services, immersive workshops, and community-centered productions and events that challenge people young and old to radically imagine and co-create all of the climate just futures that are very much still possible. Looking forward, we’re committed to expanding The Climateverse’s reach and impact: 🚀 Our flagship newscast project is now rebranded to the Dispatch from Other Dimensions and will have a renewed look and feel in the new year. 🚀 Our Futurescapes zine in honour of the UN Summit of the Future will be launching soon, along with more community workshops and events, so stay tuned! 🚀 We are keen to work with mission-driven organizations to develop visionary strategic planning processes that center futures and foresight, community engagement, sustainability and long-term impact. If that sounds like you and your team, please do check out our new website and reach out to chat! https://lnkd.in/e4JEuPXD Thank you to everyone who has supported The Climateverse so far. I look forward to this next chapter and to seeing how The Climateverse continues to spark change, inspire engagement, and bring climate just futures to life. #FuturesThinking #ClimateJustice #TheClimateverse #StrategicForesight #ClimateAction #CommunityEngagement

Shifting narratives is essential to shifting power. The stories we tell shape who holds power and who is left behind. How can we reframe these stories to build a fairer society? Evy Peña, #NGFP2021 Fellow and Forced Labour Awardee, works with SOIF on Sprout, a programme aimed at nurturing next generation leaders dedicated to children’s well-being and safety, with Ignite Philanthropy: Inspiring the End to Violence Against Girls and Boys. In her guest post, she introduces ‘Stories Through the Prism’, a tool designed to help movement-builders challenge surface narratives and reveal overlooked insights that can drive real change. By translating and amplifying these deeper truths, we can align our strategies with a vision for justice. RESTO ZERO Workshop Navarra 🌿 On September 20, 2024, we held RESTO - a hands-on event focused on new perspectives for innovatively reducing waste in the HORECA sector and beyond, and promoting a zero waste culture with students in the agrifood space. The event featured practical workshops where students created innovative dishes from commonly discarded ingredients, such as watermelon rind kimchi and whole broccoli salad. These activities demonstrated how creativity and efficient resource management can transform food waste into culinary opportunities. With busy hands and clear minds, participants engaged in ideating Product Innovation Creation & Sustainable Business Management solutions. The primary goal was to provide students with practical tools and knowledge to drive innovative and sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives, including efficient planning, waste measurement, intelligent menu design, and fostering a zero-waste culture in professional kitchens. Thank you to all our amazing speakers: 🔸Estefania Simón-Sasyk 🔸Dr. Paula Torán-Pereg 🔸María José Mantilla 🔸Víctor Quintilla Insta 🔸Elisabet Puiggròs 🔸María Teresa Muruzábal . RESTO ZERO was made possible thanks to EIT Food and the European Union, in collaboration with the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) Tune into our Youtube channel to see all the talks - https://lnkd.in/dfkqd8uR

As the UN Summit for the Future ends today where some of my friends and fellows from Next Generation Foresight Practitioners and the School of International Futures (SOIF) are participating - I am also very aware that many who wanted to and should be at the summit from the majority world were unable to attend due to reasons beyond their control. These reasons are obvious and familiar structural challenges, such as visa restrictions and convening in locations that are difficult to access. Earlier this year, The Movement for Community-led Development, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, and Peace Direct came together to address the growing frustration over the challenges of participating in such convenings. In consultation with individuals and organizations through listening sessions held between February and March 2024, a document titled "How to Organise International Events and Convenings" was developed. This document offers recommendations for convenors and funders to consider, with the hope of improving accessibility and inclusivity for future events. I’m happy I had the chance to contribute in some capacity to preparing this guideline, alongside 213 other individuals and organizations involved in the consultation process worldwide. You can download or read the guidance note with recommendations through the link below: https://lnkd.in/gjnnXbTK
