Great to see #StrandAldwych make the cover of Pro Landscaper's first #PublicSpaces special with a fantastic photo by @glasshopper_x for millimetre. Lots in this feature about how this #welcoming new city space in #Westminster came about, as well as design details including the incredible new sculptural seating, which took a year to make and went in earlier this year, designed by LDA Design and fabricated by the wonderful millimetre. #StrandAldwych is the work of many and this gives us another opportunity to celebrate the collective effort and the ambition of a team that went for the boldest option and pulled it off. Last Monday we made a late decision to get tickets for the Olympic Closing Ceremony – with it being on our global doorstep and the next two being in LA and Brisbane meaning it’s going to be a loooong time until the next ‘short trip’ to experience the Olympics is possible. It was certainly the right decision to do so. The buzz around Paris itself was incredible. Arriving early at the stadium to feel the build-up, the parade of the athletes, the performances, the handing over of the flag to LA, and not least seeing “Maverick” (which will always be Tom Cruise’s real name as far as I’m concerned) abseil from the roof very close to us. It was truly a global celebration, with people from all over the world, all being a part of this incredible event. I have nothing but the greatest admiration though for all of the planning to make it happen. From preparing the bid, winning it, putting together all the plans – the infrastructure, the venues, how to get from A to B to C, the security/policing to help keep everyone safe, and of course all the years of preparation and training from the athletes for their respective events. Not only those who do break the world record, the Olympic record, win a medal, hit their own personal best – but everyone there and their whole support teams representing the best in their fields at this time from all corners of the world. They should all be celebrated. Just as we should all celebrate our own industry too. We can celebrate all the years of planning and preparation, all those working hard behind the scenes to make it happen. Celebrate the completion of projects which help to develop and regenerate the communities we work in and the legacy that they leave. Whilst I’m a world away from being anywhere close to the athletic and sporting ability on show, I can certainly celebrate Team NRP and the incredible talent we have – to keep improving – to keep delivering high quality work at a gold medal standard for our trusted and valued clients. #NRP #NRPeople #NRPCulture
