We were delighted to arrange and facilitate Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government's Major Asset Renewals (MAR) Workshop at Wrexham University yesterday. The workshop allowed us to present the innovative approaches to delivering MAR Schemes with industry leaders, consultants, and contractors. We shared the prioritised programme of future schemes and discussed how these priorities can be integrated into procurement and delivery on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) in Wales. The workshop was opened by Andy Falleyn the Welsh Government's Chief Engineer before our Director, Matthew Lugg OBE gave a keynote on the Lugg Review and how it aims to optimise annual maintenance and asset renewal programmes on the SRN, while addressing legal risks and statutory duties. The results of our MAR prioritisation review were presented by our Associate Director, John Bennetts before the workshop welcomed the Cabinet Secretary for North Wales & Transport, Ken Skates MS, who spoke with passion about this future investment in the strategic road network of Wales. With our extensive experience in complex asset renewal projects, WSP in the UK continues to focus on sustainable solutions and innovation. These efforts support the Welsh Government's goals following the Lugg Review and contribute to the wider objectives of the Wales Transport Strategy (WTS). It was fantastic to see our Nature Advisory Strategic Lead, Jenny Merriman, participate earlier today in the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment and All Party Parliamentary Group on International Conservation's COP16 Parliamentary Roundtable, alongside Nature Minister Mary Creagh CBE MP, Will Lockhart OBE from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Bethan Laughlin from Zoological Society of London (ZSL). Hosted at Portcullis House, the roundtable provided a valuable opportunity to discuss government priorities ahead of COP16 in Colombia, bringing together parliamentarians and experts to explore the critical steps needed to tackle the nature crisis both in the UK and globally, and ensure ambitious outcomes for biodiversity 🌏 Jenny represented the voice of business, discussing the growing recognition of material risks associated with nature loss, the ambition of the business sector to collaborate with decision-makers in meeting the UK's 23 targets, and the exciting innovations and opportunities emerging from the transition, which require enhanced green skills training. She also highlighted the call from businesses for policy actions that can facilitate and incentivise a rapid and equitable transition to a green economy. See Jenny in action below! #COP16 #Biodiversity #NaturePositive

At WSP in the UK, we are committed to cultivating inclusive and green transport solutions 🌿🚆. Our latest whitepaper, Cultivating Inclusive and Green Transport, delves into how gender-responsive design can enhance mobility choices and accelerate transport decarbonisation. It emphasises the importance of creating inclusive transport systems that allow everyone, particularly women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals, to participate fully in socio-economic life. By integrating gender equality into transport policy and planning, we can address critical safety and accessibility concerns, paving the way for a more sustainable future. You can read more on the topic in our latest piece in The Developer where our Principal Consultant, Susan Leadbetter and Consultant, Jackie Genova discuss how prioritising gender equality can help tackle the climate emergency and support the transition to zero-carbon transport.
