This week we welcomed our first companywide Graduate intake, with joiners across various locations and departments within OCU Group. With over 2000 applications received for these positions, our congratulations go to those who we welcome to the team week. Before commencing with their different business units, our newest graduates spent two days at our Stockport headquarters meeting people from a variety of teams and attending a networking evening hosted by our CEO Michael Hughes. Meet our newly developed electrically heated hotbox which immediately creates a safer environment for both operators and the public.   Gas-free, safe and efficient this is an industry first from our Plant and Transport team, the e-hotbox was developed over two years alongside our manufacturer. Project Feature – Chaul End Service Reservoir As we near completion on one service reservoir we are excited to have begun work on another with our valued client Affinity Water, this time a new 20.75-mega-litre service reservoir in Chaul End. OCU is responsible for design, planning, project management, construction and commissioning of the project, which is scheduled for completion in September 2025. One of our company values is 'We make a positive impact' and it's about being part of and supporting the communities we serve. A recent example is last month when we sponsored the Runcorn Community Youth Football Tournament as primary sponsors. The tournament saw over 60 teams and over 800 children take part. It raised over £2300 for a local hospice and we were pleased to have been there for the cheque presentation too. While giving something back to the community we were also able to take the opportunity to talk about the great work our team are doing on the Vyrnwy Aqueduct Modernisation Programme in the area. Project Feature – Luton Service Reservoir We are working with our client Affinity Water on a new 20-mega-litre service reservoir in Luton. OCU is responsible for design, planning, project management, construction and commissioning of the project, which is scheduled for completion late 2024. Pre-cast panels are being used to reduce client costs and double handling, as well as decrease the number of plant movements and operatives required on site. Our approach delivers energy savings, alongside a reduction in CO2, NOx and SO2 waste, a brilliant example of our teams expertly delivering for the water industry. Project Feature - Hyde Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)   Hear from our team on-site who are making great progress at one of our exciting BESS projects in Hyde, Greater Manchester.   The team have recently overseen the 10-tonne crane lift of the battery containers onto their concrete foundations.   We spoke to Glen Ross, Senior Civil Project Engineer and Andy Lee, Surveyor about the history of the site and the recent progress as we deliver on this important project. Another great project being expertly delivered by our teams, as we strive to lead the way in the UK's energy transition.
