Pop-soul viral sensation Lusaint has signed with PPL for the collection of her international neighbouring rights royalties 🌟 The signing comes after the Manchester-based singer-songwriter released her debut EP Self Sabotage last month. We’re very proud to continue our long-term collaboration with Music Minds Matter as part of our commitment of giving back to music. The funding will help the charity to deliver its critical mental health support at a time of high demand, with funds going directly to supporting the mental health of musicians across the UK. PPL has supported Music Minds Matter for the past three years. In 2023, Music Minds Matter was able to help over 3,300 musicians and individuals working in the music industry but there are many more still in need of support. Speaking on the announcement, our Chief Membership & People Officer, Kate Reilly - Hurter said: “Mental health struggles are very real for people who work across all facets of the industry. We’re proud to continue our long-term collaboration with Music Minds Matter so they can deliver tailored mental health and wellbeing programmes and wellbeing support for all those who need it, when they need it.” You can read more on the announcement below 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eufUJhst Sarah Woods Help Musicians

As October arrives, I want to start by extending a heartfelt thank you to everyone at PPL who has supported our highest ever Q3 payment of £16.5m to over 21,000 performers and recording rightsholders. This quarter’s distribution payment is made up of international revenues collected from 55 CMOs. It also includes our first payment to over 1,000 performer members from the Indian Singers’ and Musicians’ Rights Association (ISAMRA) following the signing of a bilateral agreement announced in January this year. I know that these payments provide important sources of income for many, and we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver them consistently and on time.    I’ve had the pleasure of attending a lot of live music over the last few weeks. I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Walker’s intimate gig at the Gibson Garage in association with Deezer, which coincided with the release of his new album “I AM”. Tom is an exceptional talent, someone who has truly made his mark with his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics. I attended with my colleague Michael Stack and it was great to catch up with him and his manager Simon King before his performance, hearing about his exciting plans. Congratulations to Tom, Simon and all the team on the top 5 album! Very well deserved.   Speaking of top 5 albums, I also got to see London Grammar and Snow Patrol perform earlier this month, both of whom have also had tremendous chart success with their new albums this month (London Grammar #3 and Snow Patrol #1). I’ve certainly been very lucky with gigs this month!   One of my September highlights was attending the In The Making showcase, an organisation we support through PPL Giving and our relationship with the The Ivors Academy Trust. Cassell The BeatMaker, Robecca, and all of the ITM team have done an incredible job over the last three years in developing some amazing talent on the programme that has been supported by PPL and The Ivors Academy Trust. It was a real treat to see a mixture of this year’s talent as well as some artists from previous years. The artists all speak so highly of the care and attention shown to them by Cass and the team and what it has done to develop their careers. A big congratulations to everyone involved.   September also involved dropping off my youngest daughter at Bath University. I’m sure that fellow parents out there are familiar with those emotions! It was a special occasion dropping her off with my eldest two children, who have both finished university and can share their wisdom. The older two both attended university in the same city of Nottingham, so my wife Jo and I are quite excited about having a new city to explore over the next few years, when we go to visit our youngest daughter.

Today we announce our Q3 payment of £16.5 million to more than 21,000 performers and over 1,500 recording rightsholders. This is an increase of 30% on the previous year, and our largest September payment in our 90-year history. Commenting on the Q3 distribution, PPL’s Director of International, Laurence Oxenbury, said: “We are proud to make this record payment to our members who invest so much of their talent, creativity, and time into recording music to be enjoyed by people around the world. Through our collaboration with over 110 collective management organisations globally, we are helping ensure performers and recording rightsholders get paid for their music when it is played in markets where public performance rights exist.” You can read more on today’s distribution below. https://lnkd.in/eKTvQzbE

Congratulations to Snow Patrol, their team at Closer Management and Polydor Records on their eighth studio album, “The Forest Is The Path” – which has debuted at #1 in the charts! Last week, my PPL colleague, Michael Stack and I were guests of Closer co-founder Paul McDonald at Snow Patrol’s gig at Pryzym, Kingston. It was great to catch up with Paul and to hear a mix of Snow Patrol's new music alongside some of their other timeless classics. One of the songs performed last week was "Chasing Cars". Five years ago, when the attached photo was taken, we celebrated “Chasing Cars” as the PPL Most Played Track of the 21st Century across all of our licensees. Remarkably, it still holds that title today! What an achievement. And a special mention to lead singer Gary Lightbody for his continued passion and support of music in Northern Ireland. Your contributions continue to inspire and uplift the music community. It was an honour to be present at the N Ireland Music Prize in 2019 at the Ulster Hall in Belfast when Gary Lightbody received the "Outstanding Contribution to Music" award for all that he has done for music in N Ireland. Snow Patrol also then went on to perform that night as well.
