My colleagues and I have long seen TechBio—the data-centric, AI-native counterweight to biotech—as a major opportunity area for AI applications. DCVC portfolio co Relation, whose lab-in-the-loop model is working toward creating life-changing treatments for complex, debilitating diseases, is a signal example of the TechBio sensibility.   Relation is one of many transformative London-born companies, and I was honored to speak at its event alongside AlbionVC's Leigh Brody and StartCodon's Jason Mellad on the region's promise as a hub for this kind of innovation. It was also great to hear from Julia Fan Li of Micrographia Bio and Maureen Makes of Recursion—two other leading @DCVC TechBio portfolio cos with London R&D centers.

It was brilliant to host the 'London TechBio Revolution: Code to Cure' event at Regent's Place today, alongside the official launch of our pioneering new lab space in partnership with The Francis Crick Institute at 20 Triton Square. A huge thanks to Rosie Rodriguez PhD from Relation for bringing together an incredible group of speakers. The inspiring panel discussions highlighted the immense power of TechBio / BioTech (discuss... 😉) and the transformative advances this technology will bring to our lives. What a fantastic day. Today, alongside Relation, we hosted the ‘Code to Cure: London’s TechBio Revolution’ event at Regents Place and welcomed the TechBio community to 20 Triton Street. An oversubscribed event is always a good reflection of the excitement for the subject matter and the programme didn’t disappoint. So much interesting discussion and insight, but for me the biggest takeaway was the optimism and excitement around the opportunity for TechBio to thrive in London driven by our excellent fundamentals - deep pools of talent, mature tech ecosystem, world class universities and research institutes. There was also a helpful reminder from Steve Bates OBE FMedSci of how far we have already come - not sure I agree that we are ahead of Kendall Square, but love the optimism! This view very much aligns with that of British Land and is why we are so enthusiastic about the opportunity at Regents Place - I am not sure there is anywhere else that provides pioneering businesses the same opportunity to scale in the most exiting area of the world’s greatest city. With this audience and such excitement in the room, it was a fitting moment to launch our new collaboration with The Francis Crick Institute to deliver serviced labs at 20 Triton Street. Not only does this offer fantastic lab and write up space in the heart of the campus, but our customers become part of the Crick community and the access to the world class scientific expertise this brings. A unique opportunity and one we are looking forward to delivering alongside Stephen Mayhew Henry Robinson Halle McCarthy Steve Gamblin and the rest of the Crick team.
