We're investing $1.8 billion* to develop the Brockman Syncline 1 mine project, extending the life of the Brockman region in the West Pilbara of Western Australia and sustaining production from our iron ore operations. "Rio Tinto has been mining iron ore in the Pilbara for almost 6 decades and our tranche of new mines will ensure we can continue to supply the globe’s ongoing need for iron ore, for decades to come,” Iron Ore Chief Executive Simon Trott said. Construction will begin this year and production will commence in 2027. *The capital for the project is already included in the Group's replacement capital guidance. #IronOre

Together with Edify Energy we've signed 2 new agreements to increase the supply of reliable, competitively priced electricity to our Gladstone aluminium operations in Queensland, Australia. Under the solar and battery hybrid services agreements, we will purchase 90% of the power and battery storage capacity generated by the Smoky Creek & Guthrie’s Gap Solar Power Stations for 20 years. Edify Energy will build, own, and operate the projects, with construction due to begin in late 2025 and targeting completion in 2028. "These agreements are integral to repowering our Gladstone aluminium operations with affordable, reliable and lower carbon energy for decades to come," Chief Executive Australia Kellie Parker said. #FindingBetterWays #Gladstone #Decarbonisation

We have released our latest briefing paper that focuses on our approach to nature-based solutions. While our priority is reducing emissions at the source, we see nature-based solutions as an essential complement to our efforts to achieve net zero, helping to protect and restore nature, support sustainable livelihoods, and deliver high-quality voluntary and compliance carbon credits. Restoring old mine sites is a complex industry-wide challenge – one that we need to get right. It requires years of coordinated planning and sustained effort between mining companies, communities and government. The Holden Copper Mine remediation project in the US is one example of our approach to rehabilitating legacy assets and associated impacts. We set out to clean up hazardous materials left behind after decades of mining. To address environmental impacts we: ✔️ Reshaped and covered around 8 million tonnes of tailings and waste rock piles. ✔️Built an underground barrier to contain and divert polluted groundwater to a newly constructed water treatment plant. For the first time in nearly 60 years, the water flowing through the creek is clean. And we continue to monitor the ongoing environmental impact of the site to ensure any risks and issues are contained. Listen to the 📽️ 👇 to find out more. #FindingBetterWays #Closure #Rehabilitation

Who is a woman that inspires you? This International Women's Day, we are celebrating the contributions of women across our business and beyond. "My late maternal grandmother inspired me," Humbulani, Mining Manager at Tom Price in Western Australia, said. "She taught me that I can achieve everything in life if I put my mind to it." Today is also a chance to reflect on our progress towards gender equality in the workplace, while recognising there’s still work to be done every day. By creating a culture where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to be their best selves, we can build an even stronger company. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction

“At Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), safety is more than just a policy — it’s a commitment to the wellbeing of everyone around us, a value we all share,” Oupa, our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Business Partner in South Africa, says. “We’re not just ticking boxes; we’re empowering our operational leaders and teams to embrace a safety mindset in their daily routines.” Over the past year, the RBM team has focused on enhancing both physical and psychological safety. The team used safety diagnostics and have adapted their processes and how they work during the busy festive season, intentionally slowing down to ensure that everyone can remain focused on their tasks. Recently RBM introduced an initiative which seeks to improve safety when working around live electricity. This has seen them revamp controls from substations to the tools the teams use, effectively eliminating hazards on the tipping floor and reducing the risk of injuries. This initiative has sparked a company-wide commitment to improving electrical safety management. Oupa and the team’s efforts to place psychological safety at the top of their priority has also resulted in the introduction of Family Critical Season seminars. These sessions serve as a reminder that it’s perfectly okay to take a moment to pause when conditions aren’t right — after all, the most important thing is that everyone returns home safely at the end of the day. #FindingBetterWays #Safety

Members of the Bell Bay community have turned a once-empty patch of land in Low Head, Tasmania, Australia, into a community garden. This garden uses donations from Voconiq who uses an acknowledgement-for-feedback model to gather community feedback.
