We are thrilled to share the news that RX Architects is now a certified B Corporation. This is a significant milestone for our practice, and we are proud to be part of a community of over 8,000 businesses worldwide working towards positive change and dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. When we started RX Architects in 2016, we knew we wanted to run a company, that at its core, has a desire to design and build in a more sustainable way. “let my people go surfing” written by one of our B Corp heroes, Yvon Chouinard, inspired us to take the plunge. The rigorous 12-month long B Corp certification process enabled us for the first time to measure our output in a meaningful way. It is a big honour for us to join the B Lab UK community and we will continue to collaborate with our clients to make an efficient use of energy and natural resources resulting in simple buildings which are enjoyable to inhabit. Huge thanks to our dedicated B Corp team, Victoria, Charlotte and Margo who played a crucial role in RX Architects achieving certification. The design combines charred larch timber cladding with zinc, the house looks across a natural pool and has stunning views across the High Weald AONB. The scheme also incorporates a ground source heat pump, sustainable timber frame and solar to crest a low carbon, low running cost family home. Now in its 16th edition, the award nominates all the buildings published on ArchDaily over the past year, and each project is eligible for all applicable categories based on its function. Seabreeze A look back to when Dezeen featured our pink concrete 'fun house' in January 2022 Seabreeze is located on Camber Sands beach in East Sussex, directly backing on to the sand dunes behind and with outstanding views across the beach and English Channel. The site is unique in that it is one of only a handful of properties in the region which are only accessed by driving along the beach. The dunes behind the property are a unique landscape feature and are designated as a SSSI (Sites of Special Scientific Interest). The designs are focused on creating a robust building to cope with the extreme weather conditions, with high winds, moving sand and salt air. The building is externally finished in trowelled concrete with a pink pigment, to create a sealed envelope. A look back at Water Lane Kitchen Garden For the restoration of this Grade II Listed Victorian walled garden we used low energy solutions for existing and new buildings, with minimal intervention. Featuring a carefully restored Vinery building and a new restaurant, the landscaping scheme developed by Jo Thompson FSGD FLI has seen the garden blossom and provide the on-site chefs with fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits throughout the year. Seven months ago we achieved B Corp certification and our overall B Impact Score was high at 91.6 We draw on our inspiring surroundings and everything we do is shaped by a sense of place. Our name RX is the marine code for the area between Dungeness and Hastings. A symbol that as a practice we are rooted in the area we live and work. Seascape & Beach end, two new build houses on the beach front at Pett Level in East Sussex. Recently complete for Martello Sussex the pair of houses are spread over three floors. The properties are laid out with the main family spaces on the top floor, with open plan living, kitchen and dining spaces maximising the far reaching views across the beach. Both have 3 spacious double bedrooms with balconies and terraces at each level. The houses are built using Petersen Tegl linear white and black bricks. Beach End has just been realised by The Modern House for sale. It benefits from 360 degree views, with the cliffs to the west, beach to the south, camber & Dungeness to the east and the Royal Military Canal to the north. Looking back at December projects Sycamore Cottage is a renovation and extension project we completed late 2022. The existing yellow brick 1970s bungalow was extended to the rear to create a large vaulted open plan kitchen, living, dining space - with both the old and new structure re clad in black timber and re roofed in dark corrugated metal. The house is in Camber Sands, a short walk from the beach, but has great views over the surrounding marsh farmland. A few shots from one of our recently completed beach house projects. South Cliff, located in Bexhill-On-Sea is a new build house, sitting raised from the beach at the top of the cliff overlooking the beach. The new house has a basement level, with 3 floors of accommodation above, including a lookout snug room on the top floor with roof terrace. The house has a substantial solar array, battery storage, MVHR for passive air recovery and heat pumps to heat and cool the property. Solar shading fins have been incorporated into the design to help prevent overheating.
