We are thrilled to share the news that RX Architects is now a certified B Corporation. This is a significant milestone for our practice, and we are proud to be part of a community of over 8,000 businesses worldwide working towards positive change and dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. When we started RX Architects in 2016, we knew we wanted to run a company, that at its core, has a desire to design and build in a more sustainable way. “let my people go surfing” written by one of our B Corp heroes, Yvon Chouinard, inspired us to take the plunge. The rigorous 12-month long B Corp certification process enabled us for the first time to measure our output in a meaningful way. It is a big honour for us to join the B Lab UK community and we will continue to collaborate with our clients to make an efficient use of energy and natural resources resulting in simple buildings which are enjoyable to inhabit. Huge thanks to our dedicated B Corp team, Victoria, Charlotte and Margo who played a crucial role in RX Architects achieving certification. Thank you also to FutureShift for guiding us through the B Corp journey. #reinventingbusiness #bcorp #bcorpuk #bthechange #ribasoutheast #bcorpcertified #socialresponsibility #blocal #architecture #FutureShift #sustainableliving #coastal #rxa #eastsussex

Looking back to last year's WhatHouse? awards, delighted that our new build apartment scheme at Hythe was given the Gold award The design replaced a single house with 8 spacious flats with stunning views over the coast. The scheme combines grey bricks with natural timber cladding and a seamed metal roof, with inset recessed balconies and communal gardens. #hythe #development #coastlands #whathouse #awards #winner #gold #archdaily #architecture #design #dezeen #seaviews #coastal #development #rxa

Febe is a bespoke development consisting of four new-build, contemporary family homes that replace a single dilapidated property on the East Sussex coastline. The site is located in Camber Sands, a short walk from the beach, and overlooks the iconic sand dunes that designate the area a SSSI, with glimpses of the sea beyond. The brief was to rejuvenate the site through the demolition of the existing, derelict property and constructing four sustainable, contemporary homes. All four properties were purchased by private clients pre-construction and the open-plan layouts were tailored to meet the needs of each client. The houses are clad in a combination of charred larch in black and white finishes which complements their angular composition, creating a striking, modern street scene. Each house offers an open plan kitchen, living, dining area with connections to a private garden and outbuilding. On the first floor, three bedrooms with master ensuite with roof terrace Febe is one of the first UK developments to pioneer Photovoltaic Thermal (PV-T) panels as part of its energy strategy. PV-T converts sunlight into electricity in the same fashion as a typical photovoltaic panel, however PV-T combines this with heat pump technology to the rear of the panel, absorbing heat and transferring it to heat the building as well as producing electricity. The PV-T system is complemented with battery storage and high-performance insulation to ensure that each house is thermally efficient with minimal operational carbon, resulting in EPC A rated houses Build by #CoastViewProperty Gardens by #GreenesLandscapeDesign Joinery by CHARTWOOD DESIGN LIMITED Structural design by #ErigoStructuralEngineers Glazing by ODC Door and Glass Systems Photos by Richard Chivers #coastal #beachlife #bythesea #camber #eastsussex #development #charred #cladding #architecture #dezeen #archdaily #design #sustainability #rxa #rxarchitects

Delighted to have secured full planning permission for 15 homes and improvements to a grade II listed building on behalf of Maisie Bolt and Quantum Group, in the beautiful village of Iden. Despite some concerns, the Rother Planning Committee accepted the significant benefits of the scheme and amidst the local objection, came to the right decision. Need more committee decisions like this! Expertly designed by Rob Pollard and RX Architects Town & Country Planning Solutions Ltd

Planning success! 🏘 I am thrilled to announce that our planning application for 15 houses and alterations to an existing Grade II listed building in Iden, East Sussex was approved at Rother District Council's planning committee this morning. The partly allocated site brings forward 15 high quality, sustainable and sympathetically designed homes, including 3 affordable, to the village of Iden. The proposal surrounds a central green space, with biodiversity enhancements and will be a welcome addition to the village, which hasn't seen any new development for many years. We are so pleased with the result and would like to thank our fantastic team of consultants who helped us get here, especially: Jonny Pickup Town & Country Planning Solutions Ltd Rob Pollard RX Architects Chris Owen-Hughes Paul Basham Associates The Ecology Co-op Also huge thanks to Tim Duncan @ Lambert & Foster Ltd for the land intro! Meadowgate is an adaption of a 1970’s rural bungalow. The bungalow was originally built as workers accommodation to manage the surrounding farm land The building now sits within 22 acres of land, mostly agricultural pasture land with several acres of mature ancient woodland. The original building was single - the scheme developed to maximise the views that were currently underutilized, by adding a new first floor on top of the original structure to create an upside down house with fantastic views over the rolling countryside which is nationally designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A new steel frame was added inside the structure of the original walls to support a new cantilevered first floor. The entire exterior of the original bungalow was then wrapped in insulation and finished with a layer of black render. The design utilized as much of the old structure as possible to minimize construction waste and reduce the projects carbon footprint. The new first floor walls were built form highly insulted timber frame panels, to keep the weight of the new structure low, whilst provide a highly insulted air tight envelope. All windows and doors were replaced with triple glazing and roofs were covered with a wildflower blanket. The design also aimed to maximise the substantial amount of land around the building by burying a ground source heat loop. The heat loop passively heats and cools the building through the ground source heating system, which is then topped up with a substantial solar array and battery storage. The new first floor was clad in black stained timber, using triangulated timber profiles to create a dynamic façade, with the dark finish helping to blend the new top floor into the wooded tree top back drop Build by #asblakecarpentry Joinery by CHARTWOOD DESIGN LIMITED Structural design by #ErigoUK Kitchen by Portrait Kitchens Photos by Richard Chivers #reuse #adapt #extend #rural #countryside #countryliving #sustainable #sustainable #nature #landscape #AONB #rxa #rxarchitects
