  • “The creation of the largest liquid-air energy facility in the world, in Ayrshire, demonstrates just how valuable Scotland is in delivering a low-carbon future, as well as supporting the global transition to net zero.” Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, today welcomed the news that @Highview Power has selected Hunterston as the site for the latest phase of its multi-billion-pound long-duration energy storage project 👏 The Ayrshire facility is set to deliver five times Scotland’s current operational battery storage capacity – and maximise the use of Scottish-produced renewable electricity. The First Minister continued: “Scotland presents a unique environment for innovation and deployment of storage technologies and this ground-breaking project will bring hundreds of high skilled jobs to the region, both during construction and afterwards in supporting the supply chain.” #ScotlandIsNow #Renewables

  • Blockchain is transforming industries globally, especially in financial services where it's engaging younger consumers through innovations like cryptocurrencies. Its environmental impact, however, remains a challenge 👨🏻💻🌐 Companies like Scotland-based Zumo are pioneering to reduce blockchain's carbon footprint, and Ethereum’s shift to less power hungry consensus methods such as proof-of-stake (PoS) has resulted in a reduction of energy use by over 99.9%. Blockchain also has potential beyond finance, offering transparency in areas like environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting and carbon credit verification, making it a powerful tool in sustainability efforts. Scotland is becoming a hub for blockchain innovation, thanks to its academic excellence, industry collaboration, and supportive government initiatives. Here, The Blockchain and Digital Trust Taskforce is paving the way for wider adoption, while institutions like The University of Edinburgh are fostering research and development in the field. With a strong business ecosystem and commitment to sustainability, GlobalData Financial Services' recent report demonstrates how Scotland is well-positioned to lead in blockchain's future growth 👉 https://ow.ly/iUH050TvXbm #ScotlandIsNow #FinTech

  • Scotland is leading the charge in renewable energy innovation ⚡ Engineers at The University of Edinburgh have developed a revolutionary generator system that could significantly reduce the cost of electricity generated by offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies 🌊 This lightweight, stackable system not only converts mechanical energy into electricity with remarkable efficiency but could also extend the lifespan of renewable energy installations. CGEN Engineering's technology could deliver a range of benefits for offshore renewables, including reducing the average cost of energy they produce by 10 to 15%. “We believe our technology directly addresses critical gaps in the UK’s offshore renewable energy supply chain,” said CGEN Engineering’s Dr Burchell. “We aim to collaborate closely with manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers to scale up the production of our technology, ultimately expanding the Scottish and UK supply chains to meet the growing needs of the sector.” #ScotlandIsNow #Renewables
