TBM Sushila gets lifted out! 🏗️ Here's a spectacular shot of the giant TBM being lifted out from the Green Park Way vent shaft. Over the weekend, the TBM's cutterhead, front and middle shield, weighing 850 tonnes were lifted out using a 750 tonne gantry crane, marking the end of her 5-mile journey. 👏 Kudos to our expert team for successfully completing this nearly 16-hour-long operation - an incredible feat of engineering! Your dedication made it possible. A huge thank you to everyone involved! #HS2 #PassionateAboutExcellence #OneTeamSpirit Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dJNXQHkd 📷👇.

From Sports and Science to building Britain’s new railway 🚄 It’s #NationalApprenticeWeek, and today we’re excited to spotlight Joshua Savage in celebration of all our amazing apprentices and their incredible contributions to the project. Josh is currently training as a Quantity Surveyor, helping build the new HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd railway. After seven years teaching Sports and Science at a secondary school in Croydon, Josh decided it was time for a change. ⏲ For someone who always had interest in the construction sector and a knack for figures and analytics, a Quantity Surveyor apprenticeship programme proved to be the next big career step for Josh – combining hands-on training with learning in the perfect balance. ⚖ In his day-to-day role, Josh produces detailed assessments of materials and labour costs while assessing costs and risks for tenders and contracts. Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture is proud to have over 70 talented apprentices currently within our workforce, contributing to the overall 1,810 people who have started an apprenticeship journey on HS2. 🤩 Josh is keen to remind others that - “Apprenticeships aren’t just for teenagers, and it’s never too late to start again.” More information on Josh's story here https://lnkd.in/efFJ2-mb 💙 #NAW25 #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #Apprenticeships #FutureWorkforce #EmployerSuccess #InvestInTalent #RealSkills

🎉 Today, Wednesday 5 February, Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture state-of-the-art Logistics Hub, celebrated a new milestone. Located in West London, the 24-hour operational site at Willesden Euroterminal has processed 3 million tonnes of excavated material from the HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd project. The earth, removed by tunnel boring machines (TBMs), and transported by a network of conveyor belts, is then loaded onto trains, and transported to three disposal sites across the UK. This has seen a total of 2,051 trains so far delivered to these strategic disposal sites, each of which will see the material used for beneficial re-use for supporting housing developments and build wildlife areas for birds, aligning with the project's goals of managing and reusing large quantities of material sustainably. This milestone means we are now over halfway through the Materials by Rail program for spoil removal. This wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of our entire SCS team and partnerships with our supply chain: 🤝GB Railfreight 🤝Freightliner Group Ltd 🤝Cemex 🤝Brett Aggregates 🤝RFS Works and; 🤝 VTG Working collaboratively with our supply chain partners has proven very successful as we continue to deliver industry leading safety and operational performance. Graeme Murray CMILT, Rail Logistics Manager said: “I would like to say the biggest thank you to the Rail Logistics Team and Supply chain who have consistently delivered incredible operational and safety standards throughout the last 3 years. The collaboration and integrity of the whole team has shown what rail freight and construction can achieve by working as a partnership and making best use of digital platforms to monitor performance, record essential data and clearly inform our decision making. With this strong platform, we will continue to deliver at these levels for the remaining 2.6 million tonnes of excavated material to be moved by rail”. #OneTeamSpirit #PassionateAboutExcellence

🎉 SCS team ends 2024 with a Bang! 💥 The entire Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture team is celebrating a can-tastic achievement as we successfully completed a 5-mile tunnelling drive under the capital. Yesterday, our giant Tunnel Boring Machine, Sushila (named after a local schoolteacher) became the first of four to reach the Green Park Way vent shaft breaking through into a special steel reception can to prevent the shaft from filling with water. This complex and innovative engineering operation reflects the expertise and hard work of the many teams involved in the tunnelling programme. Since launching in October 2022, TBM Sushila has: ◾ Excavated over 1.2 million tonnes of earth ◾ Installed 4217 tunnel rings. 🙌 A huge shoutout to every team member who worked 24/7, around the clock, to make this moment possible. Your dedication and hard work have led to HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd's fourth major breakthrough this year! 👉 Get the full press release - https://lnkd.in/dtN4CtsM #PassionateAboutExcellence #TunnelBreakthrough #OneTeamSpirit
