Calling All Maritime Employers of Commercial Vessels under 24 meters!! You need an apprentice, and here’s why! A Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember apprenticeship provides a member of your staff with the training required to carry out their role on board. You will have the confidence that they are receiving all the training they need as required by Workboat Code 3 and MGN 280. This training is worth up to £22k funded by the government, and there may be an additional grant of up to £6k to help cover some of the costs of having an apprentice. By the end of the apprenticeship your employee will have the knowledge, skills and behaviours and mandatory qualifications to be a qualified Skipper or First Mate. Apprenticeships can be used to upskill a current employee, can be someone new to the industry or anyone in between! There is no upper age limit to being an apprentice. For more information, please take a look at our SeaRegs Apprenticeship 101 here: https://lnkd.in/ee2i_cWW The Workboat Association

Last week we welcomed our latest cohort of Small Commercial Vessel apprentices. Their first week involved them completing, amongst others, their Powerboat Level 2 course. As you can see they have thrown themselves fully into their learning. We wish the whole cohort all the best for their training ahead. Today we're encouraging you to fly the Red Ensign in recognition of Merchant Navy Day - raising awareness and showing thanks to the merchant seafarers who are responsible for shipping over 95% of the UK's trade. "Merchant Navy Day is the one moment we can acknowledge the invisible service. By flying the Red Ensign on this day, you will be recognising the approximately 80,000 men and women working at sea carrying around 95% of our island nation’s trade. Regrettably, it is only during times of war that the service enters our consciousness, as is sadly the case today with seafarers running the gauntlet in the Red Sea. This is our one opportunity to show our seafarers how much we value them, past and present, as well as their families." THE PRESIDENT OF THE SEAFARERS’ CHARITY, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT GCVO

For the second season we are the proud sponsors of Plymstock United Colts U14s away kit. Last season they gained promotion, after some very rainy months of really hard work by all. Yesterday evening we treated them to a trip around the Cattewater and Plymouth Sound. We hope they all had great fun and have enjoyed a little taste of what we do!! Inspiring young minds by showing that maritime is a viable option after education is important to us, so it was great to show them around the boats, and open their minds to another potential route for their future. Good luck for the season ahead lads! ⚽ Invest Plymouth Maritime UK

It was a pleasure to welcome Lola Fadina, Director for Maritime for the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, and Kraig McCarthy, DofT Shipping and Innovation to Cattewater Harbour last week. As part of the visit Lola and Kraig were introduced to various stakeholders and facilities that are based within the Harbour. This included Turnchapel Wharf, the home of marine autonomy, Thales, SeaRegs, Marine AI, Fugro, Acua Ocean, as well as wharf operators Victoria Wharf. We discussed our masterplan, future proofing the Harbour, and the need for investment into port infrastructure to meet the needs of an exciting maritime future, the opportunities for cleaner and greener energies and the continued importance of the maritime industry to Plymouth, the wider South West, and the UK. This year the Commissioners celebrate 150 years - now more than ever our role in Plymouth and the wider South West has never been more important. The visit also included sessions with TECF, Recycle It Global, Maritime UK South West and Celtic Sea representatives. #CattewaterHarbour #Plymouth #SouthWest #maritime

MiniMASS has landed! This morning the Maritime and Coastguard Agency published Marine Guidance Note 702, detailing a certification route and exemptions for Remotely Operated Unmanned Vessels under 2.5m. A lot of the operators we work with have been waiting for this clarification, and the new route to operating vessels will be covered on all our USV training courses along with the conventional certification system. The MGN and its attached General Exemption can be found here https://lnkd.in/eRGzYmDE - it’s important to read both documents side by side to understand what still applies and what doesn’t. For more info on our USV training packages, email info@searegs.co.uk or click here: https://lnkd.in/ef7C6CUT #miniMASS #ROUV #RemoteOperations #workboat #MASS #Autonomy

The Power Is in Prevention World Drowning Prevention Day 2024 is an initiative from the World Health Organisation, 236 000 people lose their lives to drowning annually. Here at SeaRegs water safety training is vital, and does empower water users to prevent accidents that lead to drowning. Wearing a life jacket correctly makes a significant difference to it's effectiveness in the water, ensuring that the crotch strap is adjusted correctly is key. See if you can spot the difference in these videos! This year WDP day coincides with our STCW Personal Survival Techniques course. We also run the Waterside Personal Safety Course. Both are great ways to ensure workers are aware of how to keep themselves safe whilst working on the water.
