Life. At Severn Trent. Our people are what makes us and caring for our wonderful water is at the heart of what we do.
About us
Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. (Because honestly? There’s nothing that can’t be sorted over a nice cup of tea.) But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. It’s essential, and we simply cannot live without it. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. And it’s why we do it: because we care. Not only about our water but our little corner of the country and the community we serve. We care for our amazing colleagues who without them none of this would be possible. We care about making sure they reflect the communities we work in too. At Severn Trent we do more, because we care.

"To hear the passion from Liv about the region, about the future and about young people was really inspiring.” Co-founder of Lunar Agency & radio presenter Ed James spoke after hearing Severn Trent Chief Executive Liv Garfield detail £1bn spending plans for the West Midlands to stakeholders. Mayor Richard Parker, Birmingham Airport chief executive Nick Barton and Abigail Vlahakis, chief executive of Millennium Point, were also in the packed audience at Birmingham Council House to hear how the investment plans would “deliver real, tangible benefits for our customers and communities.” Abigail said: “It was great to hear about Severn Trent’s work for the community. Supporting young people is at the heart of everything we do at Millennium Point and it’s fantastic to see other employers, like Severn Trent investing in the next generation of innovators.” You can read more here: http://ms.spr.ly/6041WPzgh

We’re excited to be a Utility Week Awards 2024 finalist in the Carbon Reduction category for our Net Zero Hub. With total investment of £40 million - including £10 million from the Ofwat Innovation Fund – we are transforming our Strongford Wastewater Treatment Plant in Staffordshire into a Net Zero Hub (NZH). This initiative marks a significant step towards our goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability while setting a benchmark in environmental best practice. The integration of advanced greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring and technological innovation at the Net Zero Hub will promote a shift towards more sustainable practices across the wider industry. Do you know what this is? 👀 A couple of hints, it’s not a Medieval weapon or something from a Halloween horror film! 🎥 This is the Stickleback, a spiky bit of kit that when lowered into the sewer grabs and removes wet wipes, stopping them from causing further havoc on the network or for customers' homes. 🏡 Truthfully, we'd love to send Sticklebacks into retirement, to do this we need your help. So please, be a binner, not a blocker. #STBeABinnerNotABlocker

Today is World Menopause Day, a time to raise awareness about menopause and the help and support available. For us, our support for colleagues has included hosting ground-breaking workshops to get people talking about menopause in the workplace and launching a menopause workplace policy at a time when there wasn’t really anything like it across the sector. Since then, the support for colleagues has grown, and this year we kicked off our ‘Menopause Cafes’, which encourage open conversation, support, and awareness, bringing colleagues together. To help mark #WorldMenopauseDay, we held a virtual and in-person panel event featuring our colleagues who shared their own experiences and stories to help others. Emily Goyal, who spoke at the event about the support we have available for employees, said: “Menopause is absolutely something that we should be talking about more. Half the population will go through it at some point in their life. Through events, cafes, training, and the support we have, menopause is no longer a taboo topic for us. We want it to be known that anyone experiencing menopause can be assured their career at Severn Trent can continue and they’ll be supported." Next month, we’re also launching a menopause champion scheme where colleagues across our patch can get extra training to support colleagues even further. ⚠️ This might make your Friday night takeaway hard to stomach⚠️ This is fat, oil and grease from a local chippy and Chinese takeaway up in Buxton, Derbyshire. Yuck. And if that isn't gross enough, imagine it flooding back into your home or businesses, along all with the other nasty stuff. 💩 That's why along with our partner, ECAS, we work with businesses across our patch to get the right grease management in place and stop this from happening. Please raise awareness this #Unblocktober by sharing this post. And if you, or someone you know, owns or works for a business who needs help please get in touch: http://ms.spr.ly/6047m0P0h

What do buckets of apples 🍏, a garden post 🏡 and Winnie the Poo 🧸 have in common? Well it was all a topic of conversation for Grant Mitchell as he joined Arun Verma's radio show last night. Thanks for having us, and letting us talk all things blockages. 💩 Missed it? Listen now on BBC Sounds (12:28 onwards): https://lnkd.in/ev6bbDTU

It’s estimated that more than 100,000 people are impacted by modern slavery within the UK, so that’s why we’re working with our colleagues and supply chain partners to raise awareness of this important topic during Anti-Slavery Week. We have extended our partnership with Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance for a further 3 years to help develop our approach to identifying and addressing the risk of modern slavery and labour exploitation. As well as this we have Engaged with key suppliers operating in higher risk categories to assess and understand potential areas of risk, build supplier awareness and implement improvements where necessary. 100,000 is a huge number we want to do our part to see that number changed to 0. 💙
