Water for Life

About us

We are one of the largest water and wastewater companies in the South East of England and thrive on the passion and hard work of more than 2,000 employees. Together we supply 532 million litres of drinking water every day to more than two million customers and treat and recycle 717 million litres of wastewater for more than four million customers in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Water is essential to every aspect of our lives and we're proud to be at the heart of managing water and wastewater services. We drink it, cook with it and use it to clean. Our water supply faces big challenges - the population of the South East is growing fast, and climate change is bringing greater risk of droughts and more extreme weather. It’s a future of more people needing water and wastewater services, with less water to go around. So, together with our customers and communities, we aim to provide a sustainable, high-quality water and wastewater service that helps us create a resilient future for water in the South East. • To celebrate International Rivers Day we'd like to take you on a tour of Lukely Brook on the Isle of Wight, where we've worked with local landowners and Island Rivers/Newport Rivers Group to: 🦋 reconnect the floodplain, adding leaky wood dams to create a vibrant new wetland habitat that's now supporting a range of plants and wildlife. ☀️ reshape the riverbed at Spring Lane, planted aquatic vegetation and cleared back overhanging trees allow more sunlight into the channel. 🐟 remove the stone weir at Towngate Pond, giving fish the freedom to move freely along the brook. Earlier this week we welcomed Environment Secretary Steve Reed to the Havant Thicket Reservoir site in Hampshire. It was a great opportunity to showcase the progress we’ve made and discuss how this project will benefit the future of water in our region💦 Havant Thicket Reservoir is the first new reservoir to be built in the UK in 30 years. Once complete, it will store an incredible 8.7 billion litres of water and provide up to 111 million litres in a drought. This new reservoir in partnership with Portsmouth Water is just one part of our efforts to secure long-term water supplies, helping to keep your taps running smoothly and rivers flowing. 💭 An uncharacteristically personal post from me but last week my LinkedIn feed was flooded with poignant posts and perfectly crafted reels in the lead up to International Women’s Day!👩🏼🤝👩🏽 And whilst I love to see it, I also can’t help but wonder what some of these companies are ACTUALLY doing to create an environment where women can thrive, not just when it suits their social media content calendar, but all year round!?🤔🤷🏻♀️ Having the strength and stamina to continually smash it at work, stay on top of the parenting game whilst juggling household tasks and endless life admin all while trying to stay (at least somewhat) healthy is like competing in a dozen sports at the same time!🥴 For me, just a simple bit of understanding for what the “behind the scenes” of my week can look like goes a long way. We’re celebrated for it for 1 week, yet we do this all year round!? Well I'm not best pleased about that math, so here I am, yes a week late for IWD, but the conversation shouldn’t end there and I hope to see others continuing to post on this topic the other 51 weeks of the year too!💪🏼 #IWD #workingmum #flexibleopportunities #parttime #womeninleadership #womensnetwork

  • Have you ever wondered what 700,000 cups of tea looks like? ☕ It’s the same as 170,000 litres of water, which is how much water we’ll be preventing from entering our sewers through sustainable drainage systems on the Isle of Wight during a 10mm rainfall event ☔ In partnership with the Isle of Wight Council, we’re slowing the flow through rain gardens and tree pits, helping to reduce storm overflows and prevent homes and communities from flooding. Harry, from the Clean Rivers and Seas Task Force, said: “We’re excited to start this work to make the roads greener and help slow the flow of water running off roads and ending in our sewer network”. • Our eagle-eyed Ecologists have recently spotted some fascinating feathered friends during site visits. It’s a reminder of the important role they play in ensuring that nature thrives alongside our operations🐦🦅🕊️ Here are a few of the winged wonders they’ve encountered: 👉 Male Teal – Known for their iridescent feathers that shimmer and change colour in the sunlight, making them a stunning sight during the breeding season. 👉 Siskin – These acrobatic little birds are often seen hanging upside down to snack on seeds, showing off their impressive skills. 👉 Black Swan – Incredible swimmers, Black Swans can even ’fly’ underwater using their wings to propel themselves – an amazing sight to behold! 👉 Mistle Thrush – Early risers with loud songs, the Misle Thrush starts its day at dawn to claim its territory. #SouthernWater #SWSnaps

  • The South East is home to some of the most beautiful, lush landscapes – and behind them are the farmers working hard to feed the nation. But it’s not just about growing crops, it’s about growing them sustainably 👩🌾 We’re teaming up with local farmers to promote practices that keep our waters clean and ecosystems thriving. By reducing pesticides and sediment, we’re protecting rivers, streams, and the sea from harmful chemicals as a result of farming 🌱 From funding to hosting events where best practices are shared, we’re making sure farmers have the support they need to keep farming green!
