The Energy Transitions Commission has published its latest briefing note, ‘Demand side flexibility – unleashing untapped potential for clean power’. In this note, the ETC highlights the critical role of demand side flexibility in delivering clean, expanded power systems as countries gear up to increase ambition of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) this month. Demand side flexibility means being able to shift the consumption of electricity at peak times, helping offset new grid and generation capacity needed across the system, reducing costs and speeding up the transition. SLR’s Head of Grid, Calum Taylor, adds: “Having a smart gird is essential to meet the needs of a swiftly changing network. SLR sees demand side response as an essential tool in reducing the investment needed to upgrade the current electricity infrastructure, whilst also providing peak-demand relief and bolstering overall network stability.” Download the full analysis from the ETC: https://lnkd.in/e8YtayaC #DemandSideFlexibility #NDCs
About us
SLR’s purpose is Making Sustainability Happen. We achieve this by having a team of expert advisors and technicians, who partner with our clients to tackle some of the world's most complex sustainability challenges, by utilising our collaborative and entrepreneurial One Team culture. SLR has been advising clients for over 25 years at every point of their project life-cycle. Starting as a UK business, we now operate as a global company with more than 3,000 people delivering client solutions across six regions. We have grown both organically and through welcoming other like-minded businesses with a similar One Team culture into the SLR group. We are ably supported by our principal investor, Ares Management, and will continue to build a balanced, successful and growing business. We’ve designed working life at SLR to look a little different. Because we know talented people often feel restricted by the rigid systems, lack of cross-functional collaboration and limited options for growth on offer elsewhere. Our One Team culture promotes meaningful professional and personal growth, our flat management structure provides many opportunities to progress, and our collaborative approach means you’ll get the chance to work on projects you care about and make a real difference. If you’re purpose-driven, self-motivated and keen to make an impact on a global scale, we want to hear from you.

With participants from across the world, the Responsible Media Forum is a partnership between 27 leading media companies, working to identify and take action on the social and environmental challenges facing the sector. Together with SLR, the RMF has just published a new report: Measuring content impacts in the media sector. Whether it’s podcasts, books, adverts, news stories or films, the media we consume impacts how we view the world. But the degree to which it impacts us is difficult to define or measure. This report provides an overview of how different media organisations are attempting to measure the social or environmental impact of their content, and the lessons we can learn from emerging approached and examples.

Built in 1914, the Alvin D. Higgins School was a junior high in Enfield, CT that educated thousands of Connecticut students. During its demolition, Donald Nunes saved the letters from the old school and SLR’s Landscape Architecture team helped repurpose them into a sign outside of the City’s Town Hall and located the sign adjacent to the Park’s Entry Plaza. The park, parking lot expansions, bandshell, site drainage, and other improvements were also part of the larger development plan we supported, shown on the masterplan graphic. SLR sees the value in preserving the history of a community. Next time you see this sign, think of us. #SLRProjects #PreservingHistory #LandscapeArchitecture #SignDesign #TownHallMonument

We are pleased to share that a collaboration to bring critical minerals learning resources into UK schools has been awarded funding support by the Department for Business and Trade. This joint project between Future Is Mine CIC and Minerals Matter, with industry support from SLR, will deliver teaching resources on critical minerals supply chains to UK schools starting April 2025. Ben Lepley comments, “This exciting opportunity allows us to build on great work done by the European Union EIT Raw Materials’ Briefcase of Mineral Applications project that ran for several years. Our project aims to take this concept and grow a network of resources across the UK and inspire future generations to get involved in this essential industry required for the energy transition” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eAhQBjTE #CriticalMinerals #Geoscience #MakingSustainabilityHappen
