Stop Domestic Abuse

Empowering Women's Health in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight 🙌 Partners from across our system came together in Portsmouth earlier this week for a two-day event on improving health outcomes for local women. We heard from a range of leaders from across the health and care system and the voluntary, charity and research sectors about the work they have been doing to increase knowledge and understanding and make improvements for women’s health. Women make up 51% of the population but the evidence suggests women are not receiving the same level of care, investigation or treatment for common and important diseases when compared to men and they often face some unique challenges accessing health care. NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s women’s health programme partners have been working since 2023 to set up the local women’s health network and deliver against the ambition to improve health care for local women. This has included conducting a local women’s health survey which received over 1000 responses from Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents. February 6th is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Today, our CEO, Claire Lambon was joined by Operations Director, Rachel Windebank and Anita our Community Development Worker – Harmful Cultural Practices attended an event in Portsmouth alongside other professionals to discuss FGM and strengthen efforts to end this harmful practice. Wow what a transformation! We're so grateful to the team at Zurich Insurance who came into one of our refuge playrooms to give it a full makeover. The team went above and beyond to meet the brief that was given to them by the young people staying in refuge. Thank you for creating a safe and happy place for families to play and learn whilst they navigate through a difficult time.

Today, Stephanie Wells ACILEx and I visited Stop Domestic Abuse on behalf of Biscoes Solicitors. We were happy to contribute selection boxes for their Christmas party, along with small gifts for the parents and staff members. At Biscoes, supporting the most vulnerable in our society, particularly those who have had to flee their homes as a result of domestic abuse, is a cause that’s truly important to us and hope that this small gesture is enough to help brighten their days, particularly at this time of year.
