Today we are excited to announce two parallel pilot projects with DataSeer – an AI solution provider for open science – that will address the practical challenges of open research implementation. The first is a joint proof-of-concept pilot project aimed at improving the accuracy and speed of editorial data-sharing checks across a broad range of journals with varying policies. The second, an initial analysis of Open Science Metrics across a sample of 5,000 Taylor & Francis published articles. Together, the two pilots have the potential to increase data-sharing policy compliance, reduce the editorial workload, and provide business intelligence to help drive openness forward. Critical Insights is a new series of selective, forward-thinking open access journals which will present diverse perspectives on the complex issues facing our world. In marked contrast to existing, largely academic-based, aquaculture journals CIAQ's editorial board includes representatives from the commercial sector, farmers, feed ingredient suppliers and manufacturers, fish/seafood retailers, environmental NGOs and government research organizations, alongside academic researchers. • “One of the biggest barriers to equity is mischaracterizing why inequities exist. If we mischaracterize that why we have no chance of understanding how to eliminate inequities. This is our commitment: supporting deep equity understanding to guide meaningful equity action.” Both instances of the word ‘why’ are italicized for emphasis. This summer we introduced a new series of selective, forward-thinking open access journals called Critical Insights, which present diverse perspectives on the complex issues facing our world. Today we’d like to highlight the journal Critical Insights in Climate Change. This journal will focus on research around understanding the dynamics of the climate system, looking at past, present and future climatic change, and making connections and feedbacks between climate change and the wider Earth System. It will also explore the impacts of climatic disruption on nature and society, along with climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as the latest technological and nature-based solutions to climate change. Taylor & Francis is excited to announce its first Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot. S2O enables a journal’s subscribers to support its conversion to OA, making new articles available to readers everywhere.    S2O introduces an additional equitable route for making trusted knowledge available to all. Under S2O’s collective funding model OA publishing costs are covered by subscribers, which means there are no OA charges for the articles’ authors. This makes it a promising solution for journals in fields where researchers are less likely to have access to OA funding, such as Humanities and Social Sciences, and for authors based in low-income regions. Read more about S2O in the press release: https://lnkd.in/eUu4ezfU #OpenAccess

Congratulations to our Director of Publishing Ethics and Integrity Sabina Alam for her opinion paper being accepted for publication at Insights: the UKSG journal. Her article, entitled “Trends in research integrity concerns and the evolving role of the publisher,” explains: “As someone who has been working on research integrity and ethics issues within publishing for over 15 years, it has been interesting and at times alarming, to see how the trends in misconduct have been evolving.” Read advice from Sabina Alam on how publishers, institutions, funders, researchers, and others can take practical and collaborative steps to both recognize and address research integrity misconduct. http://spr.ly/6040oQjMY #ResearchEthics

Today we’re announcing that we have added a new Temporary Alert to journal articles that are under investigation by Taylor & Francis’ Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity Team. This will enable site users to exercise appropriate caution when considering the research presented. Sabina Alam, Director of Publishing Ethics & Integrity at Taylor & Francis, says: “This new ‘under investigation’ notification will keep readers informed earlier in the process and enable us to remove the message once the investigation has been completed, whatever conclusion it comes to.” The Taylor & Francis Publishing Ethics & Research Integrity team investigates hundreds of research articles each year for a range of suspected issues, including data falsification, plagiarism, fake authorship, and paper mills. Each investigation is carried out thoroughly, impartially, and with care, following Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE) guidelines and our investigation principles.
