Updates

  • 🇨🇳 Yesterday, we shared an update on our visit to Argentina. Today, we’re highlighting our engagement in China. Last week, the ITIA team joined the International Tennis Federation at the World Junior Tennis Finals in Chengdu, engaging with young players and regional officials with a range of one-to-one support and Mandarin-speaking workshops. This week, Matt and Andrew have travelled on to Guangzhou, where the WTA 250 tournament is reaching the quarter-final stage. While on-site, we have delivered one-to-one sessions with players identified in partnership with the WTA for player development, talking all things integrity – from identifying and reporting corrupt approaches to the doping control process.

Director Ejecutivo en Asociación Argentina de Tenis

It was a real pleasure to meet Jenni Kennedy and Richard Sackey-Addo in Argentina. We had a highly productive meeting that significantly strengthened the bonds between our two institutions. We are committed to working together towards creating a safer environment for tennis.

🇦🇷 Hello from Argentina, where Richard and Jenni are representing the ITIA at an engagement visit with Asociación Argentina de Tenis (AAT).   Our thanks to Gastón Brum, Executive Director of AAT, for the warm welcome and productive discussions on how the ITIA and AAT can work closely together to effectively deliver our strategic priorities in the region.   Argentina has a rich tennis history, with a notable imprint on the sport's professional landscape. There are nearly 40 Argentinian players in the top 500 singles rankings at ATP Tour and WTA level, while there is also a significant number of officials working across the sport - including this week's International Tennis Federation W15 event in Trelew, pictured below. As part of our visit to the country, we have also delivered education sessions at an ITF officiating school.

  • 👨🎓 👩🎓 The ITIA places a strategic focus on prevention and education of players, ensuring that they have all of the information they need to make well-informed choices - on and off the court. With more and more players forging successful professional careers after strong college or university form, the ITIA is delivering more and more education to student cohorts, including this recent online session in partnership with the LTA and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS). Dan Roberts, National Performance Manager at BUCS, said: “It has been a fantastic to work with the LTA and ITIA to provide anti-corruption and anti-doping training for players competing in the men’s and women’s BUCS national leagues, our highest level of team competition. "The amount of players that are progressing from university to professional tennis remains significant and this additional training helps to develop these players in preparation for their step to this next level.”

  • 🗺 Tennis is a global sport, and it requires a collaborative worldwide approach to uphold integrity. This week, ITIA staff have been present at events worldwide, including an ATP Tour event in Sweden, an INTERPOL meeting in Czechia, and an International Tennis Federation officiating school in Argentina. Today, though, we’re highlighting our visit to Chengdu, China, where the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals is taking place. Alongside meeting junior players, we have also presented to officials – including chair umpires, review officials, line judges, and supervisors - highlighting the recent uptick in corrupt approaches via the internet and social media. In this clip, translated from Mandarin, ITIA Intelligence Analyst Andrew Carmichael said: “Friends and other people might contact you and say: 'You work in tennis, that's great, that's interesting' - they might ask about your work. “I'd just say to you: consider, if you're approached or asked these types of questions by other people, why are they asking? Could they use any of this information in order to make bets on tennis?”
