Despite medical cannabis being an effective treatment for conditions that primarily affect women, only 39% of Curaleaf Clinic's patients are female, highlighting the ongoing gender pain gap in healthcare. To address this, we worked with our client, Curaleaf Clinic, to launch Painful Conversations, which includes a social-first documentary produced by our in-house team at Studio 5. It features influential chronic pain advocate Stevie Boebi. The documentary showcases the stories of patients Junior and Jameisha, who share their struggles with pain and the barriers women face in healthcare. By providing a safe, uncensored space for these discussions, the campaign aims to empower women and non-binary people to advocate for themselves and explore medical cannabis as a valid treatment option, while also raising awareness about the stigma and censorship surrounding the topic on social media. Darren Sital-Singh, managing director of our in-house production studio, Studio 5, caught up with Davy this Black History Month to hear about his journey, the importance of diversity in leadership, and why young Black creatives need to keep honing their craft.
Davy Lazare is a Caribbean-born, award-winning director, writer and poet based in London. He began his career leading filmmaking workshops for prison offenders, inspiring his focus on social and cultural change. His work includes Bodies, a spoken word and dance film, and You Fit the Description, a self-funded short tackling police trauma. With over 12 years in the industry, Davy has directed commercials for brands like Ford and worked with clients such as Def Jam, Channel 4, and ITV. Our MD Darren Sital-Singh caught up with Davy in this Q&A about his journey, the importance of diversity in leadership, and why young Black creatives need to keep honing their craft.
