🇸🇪 It's been a delight visiting Stockholm, meeting the amazing The Goat Agency Sweden team and hearing Paul Scannell talk at a 'Profitability 2', an event discussing Group M's shiny new econometrics study (whatever that is). Somehow the trip turned into a fashion shoot for Emily Hall, but with impeccable style who can blame us. Content to follow! 📹

What will the impact of AI be on creators and influencer marketing? Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of attending WPP Converge; an all-day event to explore the potential of AI and immersive technology within marketing and media. As part of a panel with Google's Chris Mills, VML's Emma Chiu, and Creator/Author/Advocate Stephanie Yeboah we were able to discuss the opportunities (and concerns!) specifically within influencer marketing. Some of my top takeouts from the conversation were: 👉 There are huge opportunities for AI to increase productivity within influencer by reducing the time spent on laborious admin and processes. For example, at The Goat Agency we can use it to speedily identify the right creators for a campaign, as well as interpret data and results. This leaves more space to focus on creative ideation and innovation! 👉 Right now, we're still in that Stage 1 "Discovery" of generative AI where the average creator/social media user is viewing it with intrigue. But with smartphone companies putting more emphasis on their AI tool suites, we will likely start to see generative AI becoming the norm, just as we have with filters, AR/VR and editing over the past 5 years. 👉 As Stephanie Yeboah argued, we as marketers have a responsibility to ensure that AI and particularly the rise of virtual influencers doesn't undo any progress that's already been made when it comes to D&I within the industry. 👉 Virtual influencers are viewed by most people still as a novelty, but ultimately they cannot replace the connection and influence of real humans. A virtual influencer can't relate to the experiences of a parent, they can't have real relationships, they can't understand the insecurities and anxieties of a young teen. This removes the authenticity of that 'peer-to-peer recommendation' which makes influencer marketing such a powerful channel. 👉 People are still cautious and protective over creators and human content, and they don't like to feel tricked or misled. If you are using AI for content creation, make that evident and think about whether your customer actually wants this? Ultimately I believe the biggest opportunities of AI within influencer lie in personalisation and insights. Once AI becomes more advanced it could help us to predict audience responses to certain content, to understand the nuances depending on culture, language or preferences of the person engaging with it, or even to spot the emergence of trends within online communities. But we shouldn't forget what social media and influencer marketing is really all about which is human creativity and connection 🤝 As marketers, we tend to focus so much on the data and AI and tech and tools that we can forget to just... actively engage and be present on the platforms? This is the only real way to build relevance and understand our customers! #AI #InfluencerMarketing #SocialMedia #Creator
