Securing a world-class, dynamic & responsive research base across the full academic spectrum within UK higher education.
About us
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the UK’s system for assessing the excellence of research in UK higher education providers (HEIs). The REF outcomes are used to inform the allocation of around £2 billion per year of public funding for universities’ research. Research England manages the REF on behalf of all four UK higher education funding bodies: - Research England - Scottish Funding Council - Medr: Commission for Tertiary Education and Research | Y Comisiwn Addysg Drydyddol ac Ymchwil - Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland Our shared policy aim for research assessment is to secure a world-class, dynamic and responsive research base across the full academic spectrum within UK higher education.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) reposted this
I love a good coincidence: this interesting read on the historical evolution of research assessment in the UK published on the same day as we announce the membership of the Advisory Panels for REF 2029. Our Advisory Panels evolve as the exercise and the sector evolves. For REF 2029 we are committed to recognising the diversity of roles and forms of research are key to the vibrancy of the UK research sector. Very much looking forward to working with our new critical friends: https://lnkd.in/e6Ew26fQ Alis Oancea Simon Macklin The Research Excellence Framework (REF)

We're pleased to announce the membership of the Research Excellence Framework advisory panels Rebecca Fairbairn, REF Director, said: “Each REF exercise is an evolution from the last, and REF advisory panels play an important part in that. Our new advisory panels will embed knowledge and expertise on the diversity of people, approaches to, and forms of research that are essential to the vitality of the UK’s research base. We are delighted to have been able to build panels full of people with the skills and experience needed to shape our criteria-setting and assessment processes from all four nations and from a variety of institutions. Thanks so much to all who applied, we had a strong field with many more appointable applicants.” https://lnkd.in/eXyjBTjP
