About us

Award-winning, SALSA accredited Salcombe Brewery Co. produces a range of premium cask ale and keg products at its innovative Estuary View brewery which nestles in the Devon countryside above the world famous Salcombe Estuary. The site also boasts a well-stocked brewery shop and taproom. Visitors can purchase beer and branded merchandise, fill up growlers and enjoy tours and tastings. Salcombe Brewery Co.’s Heritage range of traditional British cask and bottled ales were the first beers produced by the brewery. This range has developed over time with tradition, quality and provenance at the heart of every pint. Brewed to satisfy the demand for quality fresh real ale, the range includes Devon Amber, Salcombe Gold, Shingle Bay, Seahorse and Lifesaver. Salcombe Brewery Co.’s Discovery collection of keg products has been created to meet the expectations of the ever-curious craft beer consumer. This rapidly expanding range includes recently launched Breeze and Salcombe Pilsner as well as established favourites Salcombe Pale Ale, Sun Drop, Island St Porter and Ocean Cider. The surrounding coastal environment is hugely important to Salcombe Brewery Co. and is reflected in its seahorse branding. The Salcombe Estuary is one of the few places in the UK where you can find the rarer of the two species of seahorse and Salcombe Brewery Co. has partnered with The Seahorse Trust to raise funds to support these endangered creatures. Constantly improving its sustainability credentials is a core objective for Salcombe Brewery Co. and as part of this ambition it recently eliminated all plastic from its packaging. To support its innovation and rapid growth, Salcombe Brewery Co. recently invested in an additional site in South Devon which now houses its own bespoke bottling and canning plant. Salcombe Brewery Co.’s range of beers is available nationwide in pubs and hospitality venues as well as retail outlets, including the brewery shop, and online from www.salcombebrewery.com .

We’re excited to share that our award-winning Shingle Bay is now available in select Waitrose & Partners stores across the West Country! Our Managing Director, Jordan Mace, said, “Securing a listing with Waitrose has been a long-term goal for us, and we’re incredibly proud to see Salcombe Brewery featured alongside other premium brands in their portfolio. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our entire team.” Shingle Bay holds a special place in our story. In 2011, it played a key role in saving the original brewery from closure. While enjoying a pint of Shingle Bay, our chairman, John Tiner, was informed by a local landlord that this might be the brewery’s final brew. Inspired, John visited the brewery that same day, ultimately deciding to purchase it and transform the business, which was later renamed Salcombe Brewery. Shingle Bay is now available at the following six Waitrose locations: Exeter, Holsworthy, Okehampton, Salisbury, Saltash, and Sidmouth. Keep an eye out for us next time you shop!

WE all remember the bad old days of lager. When Australians wouldn’t give a Castlemaine four-ex for anything else, Paul Hogan was never off our screens sipping the ‘amber nectar’ and we were all encouraged to follow the bear. The advertising was Grand Cru but the product was decidedly Vin Ordinaire. It felt as if all the money was going into the marketing, as the mega breweries flooded our pubs with bland, foul tasting, mass produced brews. The craft beer movement was a welcome jolt against this, but after an explosion of ales and seemingly endless overly complex flavoured IPAs, craft brewers are now turning their attention to the simplicity of light, crisp, lager. For the connoisseur, there are a dizzying array of styles to enjoy from fruity and dark to light and very strong. But it is the lighter style that I prefer which at their best, like sauvignon blanc or rosé, appeal with their sheer hedonistic simplicity. Simplicity is not always easy to achieve. As one brewer remarked to me: ‘It’s a difficult craft to produce a real, light lager. The hops and malts are more delicate than ale so there are fewer places to hide the off-flavours.’ https://lnkd.in/e5dq89Qw

~ Seahorse Trust ~ It's that time of year again, when we make our annual donation to the Seahorse Trust - and this year we're incredibly proud to be donating a massive £2,311.55!! We donate 5p from every bottle of our Seahorse Ale sold to the Trust - the funds raised from our sales help the Trust carry out essential work, including habitat monitoring, research, and the promotion of sustainable marine practices. These initiatives are crucial to preserving the UK’s seahorse populations, which face ongoing threats from habitat destruction and pollution. We want to say a massive thank you to all our customers for buying Seahorse over the past 12 months and for helping us to support these important conservation efforts. It's been a pretty good week here at the brewery - we're pleased to announce that our beers have achieved significant recognition at both the Great Taste Awards 2024 and the World Beer Awards 2024. Our Seahorse Ale was awarded a 2-star rating at the Great Taste Awards 2024, while our Devon Amber received a 1-star rating. Additionally, both our Island Street Porter and Pilsner were honoured with Silver medals for taste at the World Beer Awards. ~ Great Taste Awards Run by the Guild of Fine Food, Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme. Products are blind taste-tested by a panel of experts often including the demanding palettes of chefs, critics, buyers and journalists, to gain honest and impartial feedback, and are given a seal of approval with a 1, 2 or 3 star accolade. A 1-star award is given to a product that is simply delicious. 2-stars represent an outstanding product.  Judging notes for Seahorse, which received 2-stars:  This is a very good bitter with a perfect marriage of hops and malt. The sweet caramel note is welcome and not cloying, making it thoroughly quaffable. Judging notes for Devon Amber, which received 1-star: It's crisp and refreshing, and leaves you with a moreish malty and spicy impression on the palate. A really tasty, well-made bitter. ~ World Beer Awards The World Beer Awards (part of World Drinks Awards) are the global awards selecting the very best internationally recognised beer styles. With a global judging panel, each expertly chosen for their proficiency in the specific category, taste and quality are the sole criteria for awards - to receive 2 silver awards on the global stage is an incredible achievement. We're incredibly proud of our amazing brewing team, headed up by Sam Beaman for consistently producing award-winning products - these awards are a testament to their skill, passion, and commitment to excellence in brewing. Thank you for all your support - we look forward to continuing our journey of producing the very best tasting beers crafted in sunny Devon! #awards #awardwinner #greattaste2024 #worldbeerawards #beerindustry #beerindustrynews #winner

Ten years ago 574 men took to the streets of Plymouth for our Men’s Day Out. Yesterday, a staggering 2,319 of you proudly marched through the city, flying the flag for men’s mental health and our compassionate care. The day was so much more than just a banter-filled day out with the lads, it gave men of all ages the chance to honour precious memories of loved ones while opening conversations and dedicating time to their own emotions and mental health. A big thank you goes to our event sponsor JEM Scaffolding and SIR FIX A LOCK LIMITED for sponsoring all the signage along with Rapid Relief Team (RRT) United Kingdom Plymouth for providing water for all the lads, Salcombe Brewery for kindly donating the finisher’s beers and raffle prizes and Plymouth Albion RFC for hosting the event and providing raffle prizes. The kindness of these companies goes a long way! We can’t forget to thank our wonderful volunteers and every single walker who took part – you made this year’s Men’s Day Out an epic success! Here are your highlights of the day. Read the full round up of the day on our blog tomorrow and make sure to pick up a copy of the Herald to see if your photo made the cut. Pay in your sponsorship money here or in any of our charity shops. https://lnkd.in/gsr4NkT
