🌾 Understanding the Food Hierarchy 🌾 The food hierarchy has emerged as a crucial tool for promoting health, sustainability, and resource efficiency. But what exactly is it, and why should it matter to us? 🌳 Sustainability: The food hierarchy encourages us to minimise waste by using food efficiently. Reducing food waste saves money and decreases the environmental impact associated with food production and disposal. 📈 Economic Benefits: Efficient food usage and reduced waste can lead to significant savings for households, and decrease costs waste management costs for manufacturers.  👥 Ethical Considerations: By valuing food and reducing waste, we can help address food insecurity, ensuring more people have access to nutritious meals. At The Wonki Collective, we work to ensure surplus food ingredients stay in the supply chain and go to feeding people whenever possible. Let's make mindful decisions about what we eat and how we manage our food resources for the betterment of our health, our planet, and our communities! #FoodHierarchy #Sustainability #Health #Nutrition #FoodWaste #EthicalEating (The Food and Drink Hierarchy courtesy of WRAP)

🌍 Celebrating #NetZeroWeek (6-12 July 2024)! 🌍 Achieving net-zero emissions isn't just a goal; it's a necessity for our planet and future generations. At The Wonki Collective, we're proud to be part of this vital movement. This week, let's amplify our efforts and share our progress, innovations, and commitments to reducing carbon footprints. 🍊 On average, each of our transactions saves 150tns of CO2! That accounts for emissions from food decomposition, but also emissions encapsulated in the ingredient's production, processing, and transportation. 🗑️ Did you know that the GHG emissions from 1kg of food waste are equivalent to that of landfilling 25,000 plastic bottles? ♻️ How is your organisation contributing to the net-zero mission? Share your stories, insights, and challenges in the comments below! #Sustainability #ClimateAction #NetZeroGoals

🌍✨We had an amazing experience at Reset Connect, the UK’s leading sustainability and net-zero event, during London Climate Action Week yesterday! 🌱✨ Highlights from the day: 🔹Expert panel on tackling overproduction, waste, and packaging 🔹Learning about the great work other innovators who increase supply chain visibility are doing to reduce waste in other sectors (Carl Olivier of Sustained, Jordanna Marshall of ProcureCircular) 🔹Hearing from Jamie Crummie, co-founder of Too Good To Go, about how they have used their technology to reduce food waste at scale A huge thank you to the organizers for creating such a fantastic platform for collaboration and innovation. Together, we can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world. #Sustainability #ResetConnect #LCAW2024 #CircularEconomy #ZeroWaste

A hugely deserved award for Dini McGrath, Alina Sartogo, and the whole Wonki Collective team. We've been working with hundreds of amazing manufacturers and retailers who have all joined us on our mission to end supply chain waste. The majority of F&B companies don't know how much surplus or food waste lies under the covers, and as a result, they have no idea how much money they're losing that could be prevented. The Wonki Collective is here to help businesses understand their problem, identify surplus and waste, and then provide solutions for them to reduce waste and increase their bottom line! Don't miss out!

This month we're talking about The Circular Economy... but what exactly does that mean? 🤔 🤔 🤔 Well, it's about rethinking how and what we produce, what we put on the market, how we use it and, most importantly, how we keep it in use. But to help you understand this even more, we think this episode from The Circular Economy Show explains things brilliantly: https://lnkd.in/e4Hu6E8D Key takeaways: 🤝 Issues have often been looked at in silos - the climate change challenge over here, the biodiversity loss challenge over there, whilst waste and pollution sits somewhere else. But actually, when looking through a sector economy lens, these challenges are all interconnected. 🤝 We need to change how we produce and how we consume. 🤝 Business has a key role to play in a system framework change - even if you're brilliant at what you do, you're going to need the help others.

40% of the food we produce globally never gets eaten… 🌮🌯🥪🗑️ This month we’re talking about circularity in our economy to understand ways in which we can all contribute towards less waste. We love the example that M&S are setting. At the end of every day, any unsold baguettes and boules are filled with garlic butter, and then sold as frozen garlic bread🥖🥖🥖 Delicious!!! We’d love to hear from you if you’re aware of any more ideas and innovative solutions that repurpose food waste!! And stay tuned for more on this topics this month 💪💪💪 #CircularEconomy #Repurpose #ZeroWaste

A popular food waste initiative from Marks and Spencer is expanding to even more stores across the country. The scheme takes bread, which is freshly baked in stores daily, and turns it into frozen garlic bread if unsold at the end of the day. 🥖 Catherine David, our Director of Behaviour Change and Business Programmes, said: “It’s great to see a simple and effective idea grow in this way and become a big hit with shoppers. Our latest household food waste research shows that bread is the second most wasted food in UK homes with the equivalent of more than one million loaves binned daily. It can easily become surplus at the end of trading so giving a second life to a surplus loaf is an excellent way to reduce waste, make our food go further and feed families.” https://lnkd.in/ef4Y6Zzs
